I realize this is a question for the school counselors, but I'd rather ask an unofficial source first :)
On all the application websites, they say to submit ALL college transcripts, with the "all" part always emphasized.
Do they really mean all?
I had a brief stint in college straight out of high school, where I got less than stellar grades. I do not need any of these classes for a nursing program or general education requirements - they only drag down my overall GPA. Worse yet, it costs $15 per copy to order transcripts from this college, which I really can't afford when doing the shotgun application approach that seems necessary in my area.
I don't want to be dishonest, but the cost is a real issue. Is their goal making sure that they have all relevant transcripts, or truly making sure they have ALL transcripts?

if you fail to submit...and they find out your application is automatically disqualified. I would ask if they could do without that transcript. But usually they may not even consider if you disclose...but to not disclose and get caught would be much much worse.

My application said to submit transcripts for all previous college course work too.
In my case I only had 1 transcript which is from the school I am currently attending. I would be afraid not to submit everything and risk not being selected on grounds of dishonesty or an incomplete application packet.

Yes. They really mean all.
Oh well. At least it's already on file with my first choice school so I don't have to worry about coming up with the money for that one :)
Good luck on you first choice!!!
So I just realized... at the community colleges, they say you're required to be admitted to the college before you can apply for the nursing program, and they say that you have to submit a transcript for all colleges you've registered at, regardless of whether you've taken classes or not. (Ok, so this should have told me the answer to my initial question, but one can always hope...)
So you have to submit transcripts from every school you apply for to every other school you apply for, despite not having taken classes at any of them? How in the world do people manage to apply to more than a handful of schools?

Usually you are just registering at various colleges, you aren't necessarily taking classes at each one, so you will not have any transcripts if you didn't enroll in classes. You need not disclose which other schools you have applied to, if you didn't take classes, unless they ask. I did have some CC ask what other Nursing programs I had applied to. I think that was more to try to keep tabs on the waitlists.
Anyway, it IS expensive and time consuming to have to send multiple transcripts (and $20 TEAS test results!) to a variety of schools. The program I recently got accepted into wanted 2 transcripts from each previous school - one to the NS Dept, one to OAR (times 3 schools, plus one was only a partial - so I still need to send them more as soon as I finish the semester!) and of course some were "lost" and I had to pay for a second set.
I feel for you. But go for it, be honest and keep your fingers crossed. If your more recent work demonstrates the kind of student you really are NOW, your less than stellar work can be overlooked. It is especially helpful if a long while has passed. Good luck.

There is a difference between applying and actually registering at a school. For instance, I registered at a CC, then found out that I was pregnant and dropped all of my classes before they even started. I have a transcript at that school. Fortunately for me, it's the same college I am now attending, starting next week, and I also plan on going through their nursing program, so my transcipts are already on file. If I decided to attend another college or university however, I would need to get my official transcipts from all previous ones, including this one, which at this point has nothing on it. I hope that makes sense.
On another note, I too have previous course work with less than stellar grades, actually one semester I failed all of my classes because I didn't know to drop my classes (one reason not to go to a large university right out of h.s.-you don't always find out everything you need to know). The other semester, I withdrew from all of my classes, because I realized too late that they had a mandatory attendance policy at the junior college that I changed to to save money. So much for saving money...LOL, the kicker though was that I had all A's. Needless to say I was not ready to go to school, and now that I am (10 years later-yikes!), I'm hoping that my earlier attempts will not hold me back too much.
Good luck and I hope it all goes well! It's worth it in the end.

No.
They mean only the ones with good grades.

Yes. "All" transcripts is inclusive of all grades, good or bad.

I know this is silly to say since I am so far along in the schooling process, but applying to nursing school is going to cost me a BUNDLE!
I was in the military for over a decade and took classes at many different schools...
Are there programs to help offset the costs of APPLYING to nursing school:cry::chuckle
I'm applying to 2 schools (have to for family reasons) oh boy better break this to the hubby now...:chuckle
Sorry to hijack the thread.
