ER Nurses/MD's etc.
I am currently writing a "paper" on stupidest reason for someone to come to ER.
ANY input you can send me would be much appreciated. IF you'd like a copy of the FINAL draft, let me know.
THANKS in advance!
PS. My winning entry so far is:
A woman who brought 1 month old baby in at 2:30 (AM of course) because "it won't look me in the eye, It doesn't recognize me!"
Not kidding
Just today: brought in by ambulance 40ish perfectly healthy female. C/o itchy, red eyes x 2 wks. Can you say spring time in Tennessee? Come one lady! Ambulance ride for seasonal allergies? And then asked me how she was supposed to get home...I dunno....walk? Its a beautiful day. That's why your allergies are acting up. Its 78 and sunny. Everything is blooming.
EMS call... Transporting 32 yo female, she reports she has no pulse. EMS arrives lady actually walks off rig through ER door standing at the desk with her fingers against her carotid, I say "Miss you do realize that "no pulse" means you could not be standing there like that" and "Go to triage".
Toq
Another stupid er visit--You think that you've seen it all and then comes another. A healthy, 40 y/o female came in for constipation and was given a po laxitive and dc'd. Several hours later she returned with the complaint of diarrhea. And she stated the same thing occurred two weeks ago!

I'm just curious, but why was she transported in the first place? Obviously she needed a little education, but why couldn't EMS do that in the field rather than bring her in? Where there other conditions that we aren't aware of?

In some areas, EMS is not allowed to refuse to transport patients.

This sounds like someone who was looking for attention.

I've enjoyed reading this thread for quite some time now, and haven't really had anything to add... until tonight:
A mother brought her 12 year old boy in to the ER for a "rat bite to the member-- occurred 1 week ago."
None of us could imagine how that happened (although we couldn't have made up a better story no matter how hard we tried)! The pediatrician's diagnosis: dermatitis. If nothing else, it was a good laugh!!
