I am a student who starts nursing school in January and I was wondering if there is anything that I should be reading over break

If you have a math for meds book, it would be a good self-study way to start :)

USCUAmber....my advice to you would be: relax, relax, relax....you do not need to read anything...there's going to be plenty of time when you have to read. Enjoy your break as you won't get another one for a long time. Good luck to you and enjoy nursing school as much as you can. It is not all bad even though most of us make it out to be.

Find out what books you are going to be using and get the first week of reading out of the way. I know AuntieRn said to relax, I would get a head start if I were you. There are going to be so much reading while you in school, it would not hurt to get ahead. I did that over this past Summer, and I believe it helped me alot. I got a 98 on my drug calculation exam, because I was practicing questions over the summer. If I were you, I would relax for the holiday and immediate after, start reading.

Good luck to you

ITA with math for meds. Get your dosage skills down pat.

As for reading anything else- I almost have to agree with both answers you have received.

It won't hurt to find out what your 1rst week will be on...if it's fundamentals then *normally* the 1rst week is on history, legal, ethical, nursing process.

However you DO need to relax as much as you can. Nursing school will sweep you up and you will wish you had actually relaxed while you could. Right now I am on a 2 1/2 week break before my next course ( community) and I can guarantee you I am NOT reading the book. ha ha ha

If you feel you must, start reading your nursing fundamentals book. Otherwise, I would go to the movies, read comic books, read a favorite author (I like murder mysteries), do puzzles (sudoku, crosswords, etc), or work on a computer game. I already have my notebooks for next semester set up and ready to go. Once nursing school starts, you really won't have a lot of time to do those things.
