I have officially failed the nclex rn 3x. I am about to start studying for my 4th time around. I have tried kaplan, decision tree was not helpful to me AT ALL! i was scoring 70-80 on all qbank and question trainer, even went into the local kaplan center to take extra practice tests scoring that high as well. i know bought the prentice hall book. im looking for any encouragment or just suggestions. pharmacology is what trips me up the most.
please help
I hope this helps...
sometimes we tend to study information we already know and push aside the information we should really be studying. that is why so many companies put together a "diagnostic" test of some sort to see your strenghts and weaknesses. Really look at your content and find your weaknesses. U mentioned one being pharm, I think its challenging for most. I used a box of drugs cards and kaplan. do as many pharm questions as u can to practice answering the questions on medications accurately. i just recently passed an To pass I studied for 3 months and I was truly confident I knew the material before testing DO NOT GIVE UP!!! know that u can pass this exam an ppl before u have been there an have made it out...it hasnt been a easy road for me...I graduated late becuase of failing my exit exam...i didnt give up i passed that an i passed nclex u can too
Thanks to all who replied back. I needed all your encouragemnet. Thanks again. I just scheduled my RN NCLEX today. I take the boards on March 12, 2010. I will continue to study and pray all my efforts will pay off on this day. Those who are in the same situation. Retester. Study and dont give up. You will pass it. I am using Nursing and Pharmacology made insanely easy. I like these books, because they teach a differnent way inorder to learn the material. They are on ebay and cheap. Tiny3:nurse:
Don't think too much. I think this is a problem for a lot of people. They have the knowledge they know the material but fail and ask god why? The NCLEX is trying to test how quick you can read, understand and react to medical situations...but nobody tell you that. That's why you keep getting the same question over and over. You actually might have answered correctly but took too much time so they send another question just like it to see if you really know and than you go and think a lot again...I think that this is one of the hidden dirty little secrets of the NCLEX. They don't punish you if you got an question wrong but if you took too much time to answer...you are in trouble.
I failed 3x as well and just recently passed on the 4th try. The first time I did Kaplan not to the fullest but some reading and about 1000 qs. The second time did nothing just showed to the exam. The 3rd time I read almost all chapters on Saunders and did over 3000 qs on study mode, I failed all. This last time I just did the Helen Feuer review (audios) no reading, no qs. And I passed. I think I passed this time bc I was prepare from all of the times I took it, it all helped in the long run. My advise to you, combined methods of study, read, do qs in the study mode and listen to some audios. Do this til you feel confident. Also red the strategies on answering qs. It helps a lot too. Good luck and feel strong. You can do it.

I am also studying to take the Nclex again. This will be my second attempt and eventually we will pass. I feel like some days that I just can't read another question or pick up a book but you have to take a break and then get back to studying. Like Tiny3 said, don't give up. If it is content read content. If it is critical thinking then do test taking strategies. Stop doubting you capabilities. You didn't come this far without knowing something.:)
