Studying for NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi I am brand new to allnurses.com

I graduated in December and I am scheduled to take NCLEX on Feb 4. I will be doing the sylvia Rayfield review through my employer. If anybody has any feedback on this review I would really appreciate it. I was hoping for Kaplan or Hurst but this is what they are providing. Secondly can anybody help me find out how to do Suzanne's plan for NCLEX. I see to look for a sticky note but I have not been able to find it.

Thank you so much for any and all help!

Suzanne's plan is no longer available and no one is allowed to give out info due to respect for her hard work.

Why did this end? It sounded like it was helpful.

Any helpful ideas on studying for NCLEX?

Suzanne stepped down as moderator. I can tell you what I did and I passed on the first try after being out of school for about 18 months. I used Saunders and only Saunders at the advice of an instructor and Suzanne. If you find other books you like better that would be fine but beware of overdoing it. Too many books will likely get you confused, burned out, etc. I did the chapter tests and read the rationales to ALL the questions whether I got them correct or not. I wanted to make sure I understood WHY I got it right in case it was just a lucky guess. I also read over chapters I found particularly difficult. After I finished the book I did tons of questions on the CD. The month before I took the test I lived and breathed that CD. lol I wrote down things like lab values, respiratory and metabolic acididosis and alkalosis, etc. Make you sure you do enough questions per day (100 or 150 perhaps) but not so many that you overdo it. 500 questions a day will do nothing but burn your brain.

Thank you so much for responding :redbeathe! I am looking on Amazon and find many Saunders books..... can you tell me which one I should use? I am going to order it and have it overnighted! I am really nervous about NCLEX (as is everybody) and just want to make sure I study the right way ;)

I've got the 4th edition of Saunders, which was the newest version in 2008. They might have a newer one out now. Always get the newest edition you can find is my opinion. You can also find used ones at Amazon and half.com If you do buy used, make sure the CD is included because it is invaluable.

I feel your pain sister (or brother as the case may be lol) because that NCLEX drove me insane. I had to put off taking the test for months due to finances, personal health issues, a family member's health issues, etc. I finally took it on Dec 3rd and was sure I had failed. It was just awful and I guessed at over half the test. I stressed for 48 hours and even had a new study plan devised. I did the quick results and found out I passed. I now have a spanking new license and hopfully a new job starting next week.

Try not to stress (yeah right) cause if you study hard and make sure you know the material you'll do fine as well. Best of luck and if you need any more input feel free to ask.

thank you for your help! i just bought saunders q & a review for the nclex-rn® examination, 4th edition and saunders comprehensive review for the nclex-rn® examination and paid to have them here tomorrow...lol the things we will do to be a nurse! congratulations to you on passing :yeah: that is very encouraging!

say a prayer for me over the next couple weeks that what i study stays in this little brain of mine ;)

hopefully with using these and attending the sylvia rayfield review that my work is sending me to

guarantees success! it is crazy that after all the work we put into nursing school we now have to study for another test!

Hope all went well for you on test day.

Wow, so very sweet and thoughtful that you remembered! UGH!!! I feel sick to my stomach and feel fairly confident that i failed :crying2: I feel like I guessed on every question.

I have been told I won't get my results until Wednesday. I will let you know....

Fingers crossed for you!

i am about to take the nclex next week...i failed to study as much as I would have...i only attended a 17 day review when my father died last november 2009 and came back here to work again...been busy building back my life after the lost...im praying that I would still pass the test as this would be my first and could be my last try as my eligibility would expire this march...im trying to answer 265 questions a day...and have finished few chapters of saunders only ( the ones i thought are hardest for me...any other ideas and suggestions to help me pass the test this ash wednesday? ill be so grateful if anyone could help me and help me pray that I could pass the exam...cheers

Wooooohoooooooo I passed :yeah::nurse: I already got my RN license in the mail, still cannot believe it is my name on that license!! Thank you so much for study suggestoins, I really appreciate it!
