I'm so sorry you didn't ace your exam, but you are doing the right thing; studying harder and taking it again. I also want to commend you for sharing your experience.

I recently purchased Kaplan's NET study guide and it covers everything. (Reading comprehension, vocabulry & spelling, mathematics and science (biology, chemistry & physics) However, until I read your post, I was mostly concertrating on the math section. Now, thanks to you, I will make sure I study the reading section as well.

Stay strong!!!!!

Maybe you should try going to a book store (BAM or Barnes & Noble) and compare the different NET study guides they carry. It may help to find which one is right for you by picking out the one that is easiest to understand. There are so many different ones out there and I am sure you'll come across one that you relate to well.

I was never able to find anything other than that stupid ERIWorld book. I did think it helped though. But I hadn't been back to school in 12 years. But the other posters are right. It is basic math, reading, grammer, and some medical terminology.

See if you can borrow the book from a friend maybe?

i am begining to think that each state or schools have different things on the net.because mine didnt have a bit of grammar, science or medical terminology.I went to borders and they only have one net book.and ia m the only one that i know who is taking the test.

Sssooo help me out here! Remind me how to figure percentages. Can you show me how you did that percentage problem you posted....6 1/2%...

Thanks!

Hi there,

I just took the NET this past Saturday. The math part was a piece of cake... if you can remember how to add things like:

4573 + 8953 and subtract them, that's about 15 of the problems out of the 60. Then you multiply & divide 4 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers.

I think the hardest part was remembering how to do something like:

6 1/2 % of ____ is 25.

Remember how to add your fractions like: 5 1/6 + 1 3/4.

The algebra was as somebody else mentioned. There were a couple you had to reduce to simplest form. So, if you had:

(x2 + 3x + 15) - (2x2 + 4x - 7)

You have to distribute the - sign to the second part & then just go with "like" numbers to get your answer.

The only other part of the NET that matters is the reading comprehension. There's no easy way to study for that... Just read carefully and pick the best answer.

I downloaded some practice tests online from Morrison, LLC. It was $14.95 and they offered a money back guarantee. After taking the first one & finding all of their errors, I asked for my money back and received a credit within 3 days. They do request that you give them feedback on why the test wasn't helpful.

Taking their tests actually kinda freaked me out for when I went to take the NET. They had me trying to remember all of my little algebra equations. Like a2 + b2 = c2 and how do you find the area of a trapezoid? And none of that was on the NET.

Basically, just review how to do your percentages and I think you should be fine.

Good luck!

I believe that the question was set up as 6 1/2% of ____ = 25.

OK..so let _____ = X and remember that 6 1/2% = .065

So...

.065 * X = 25

X = 25/.065

X = 384.6154

Clear?

By the way, I took my NET yesterday. I'm sorry but "buy a study guide" for that thing???

If you can add and subtract 4 digit numbers, deal with decimal conversions, fractions and be able to reduce what.....6 I think....algebraic equations....that's all the math there is to it.

I scored a 97% (99th percentile) on the math and 85% (95th percentile) on the reading. Their "main idea of passage" was my downfall in the reading. I only bested the "national average score" with a 71% versus 69% on that....48% is "passing".

The part that looks like it will haunt you is the psych. profile about stress levels. I scored over 4X the average on stress about grades...but then my goal is a perfect score in every class.

Little Sis Gauge14IV gives me crap about that...." B's get degrees!! "

Hello folks,

Thanks for all of the help with the NET; I take it on Friday. At my school only the Math and Reading portions are needed for the nursing application, but we've got to take all of the sections. Also, only a 50% is needed in the two sections so, - to all who haven't done too well - I'm assuming that this could be pretty difficult. Don't feel so bad. Anyway, I've bought my book and I start reviewing this week. Wish me luck!

HOBBET study guide from ERI

in my opinion, whether you need this book depends on what kind of test taker you are and how much is at stake.

personally, i test very well but our school alomost exclusively bases its admission criteria upon the NET. i purchased the HOBBET study guide and be forewarned, it is NOT test specific. they take you through a number of stategies related to test taking and present a limited number of practice problems.

for me, i felt that the $40+ was money well spent for one reason and one reason alone...the NET has a reading comprehension portion where they ask a series of questions regarding short passages. the questions are formulaic in nature and have keywords that help you decipher what kind of answer they're looking for (basically you're learning how to take their test). i forget the specifics (gave my book to a friend who failed and needs to take it again for admittance next semester) but there were four categories or types of questions. it helped to know what to look for because time is definitely a factor.

bottom line, if you feel that you have a lot riding on the exam, buy the book. if they're using the exam as a barometer for your test taking abilities and current knowledge set, save your money for something more useful.

hope that helps,

ty

Do you know if the grammar section on the NET counts??? I know that the math and reading do but my test also had a grammar section.
