I had one go down after her hand was freed from the soap dispenser (long story). It took myself, 2 custodians and the principal to free her and as soon as we got it unstuck she said "I don't feel so good" and fell right into my arms! Luckily I was on one knee and was able to ease her down without injury to either of us. That was one experience I will never forget!
Other than that, no fainters (so far...)
I have had a near syncope episode. A boy in art class had an exacto knife and went deep into his finger (brand new blade). He got pale, clammy, said "I don't feel good". Of course there isn't room in my office to have someone lay down. He was sitting, I stood and let him put his feet in my chair and he felt better after a few minutes.
I have a family-- Dad and the kids-- who go down at the mere mention of anything squeemish! Even if an injury happens to someone else and that kid is just talking about it, they go down! We have to take everything reeelllyyy slooowwww with them when they come to the HR!
(I would have hated to have that guy in my delivery room!!)
Last year a 2nd grader passed out after presenting a newspaper article to his class. It was the story that he picked out of the paper to tell the class about. The kids were asking him questions about it and he realized what he was talking about and down he went. Moral of the story...make sure you read the whole article before school. It was comical!
I am a nursing student and I myself go through that. Even if I'm not the one injured, say a see a really bad wound, I get really dizzy and pale as a ghost and I have to sit or lie down else I'm leaving the world for a few. It happened to me last week when I did my first IV. However, after that, I did about 10 more without getting ill in any way. [=
I had a first grader come in from lunch yesterday pale and not feeling so good. I checked him out and he denied c/o stomach discomfort or anything else. After my investigation I determined that while he was eating lunch a classmate decided to show him a bloody sore that he had making the little guy a bit squeemish.....He rested on the cot and returned to class with no further problems! I didn't realize that school nurses have to be detectives also!

I had a student today that fainted after having a few minor abrasions cleaned and bandaged. I have had a few do that in my school nursing career. Have any of you school nurses had this happen in your clinic?
