CRNA FIU Starting Spring 2019

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello everyone! Recently applied to FIU's program, and just wanted to know if anyone out there (there has to be) has also sent in there application. Want to get a feel for my possible future Classmates and general information.

I heard Barry is more science intensive and their first cohort for the DNP is next year so I believe their first couple semesters are all online. I have also heard that they are more of a weeding out program which I don't like. I like how FIU really works with their students to help them succeed. And UM is just ridiculously expensive and their clinical sites have tons of medical residents to compete with. FIU was the only program I applied to, mainly because of cost and clinical sites. And FIU may not require recent statistics or chemistry but it's important to keep in mind that a lot of applicants have these courses anyways so it raises the bar regardless.

I have heard that about Barry in terms of being science intensive, but I definetly do not think that's a bad thing...weeding out I had not heard that and I know several colleagues that have graduated from this program as well. The recent Stats and Chem is not a big deal as you are right we have it anyways, but it definetly plays a role when you have been out of school for awhile and you have to retake them only because it's more than 5 yrs old.

In my case, I took chem and stats 6 years ago and passed with A's. It just kinda sucks to have to take them again when you did so well and just missed the time frame. I heard the "weeding" out rumor about Barry. It scares me really. Even if it's not entirely true, it must mean Barry is not supporting success in one way or another like other programs may be.

Anybody receive denial letters out of curiosity?

Yes, I get the denial letter.

Yes, I get the denial letter.

Sorry to hear that... don't stop continue trying! Your dream doesn't stop here. Keep your head up! Make sure to ask the coordinator what you could have done better so if you choose to reapply you'll be that much better of a candidate! Wish you luck

The first cohort for the DNP started recently (May 2018) and the first two semesters are online.

I tried creating a group on Facebook but it won't let me without adding at least one member. For those starting the program next year PM me your names so I can add you guys! If you want that is. =)

And I found this nice quote that I would like to share...."I know that when a door closes, it can feel like all doors are closing. A rejection letter can feel like everyone will reject us. But a closed door leads to CLARITY. It's really an arrow. Because we cannot go through that door, we will go somewhere else. That somewhere else is your true life."

We have all been rejected at some point in our lives...I know I have....it took me six months and several interviews to finally land my first job when I graduated from nursing school. Meanwhile all my friends from nursing school had landed positions shortly after. I felt defeated and my self esteem took a dump. But all you can do is keep moving forward. Don't give up!

Does anyone have any recommendations of areas to live near Miami? I'm from out of state and not familiar with Florida at all, but I would prefer to live outside of Miami and would love any recommendations anyone has.

We dont want a quote. We want acceptance letters!

Liberty city, Overtown, Little haiti, Richmond Heights, Goulds. Any of these neihborhoods offer reasonable rent and are close to campus.

Miramar, hialeah, hialeah (33015) área had great rental opportunities, Miami Gardens/Miramar border (33055) has great rental prices, miami lakes. Kendall can be a close option but there tends to be a lot of traffic congestion in this area. And to be clear, traffic thrives in south florida pretty much anywhere you go. Lol.
