CRNA FIU Starting Spring 2019

Published

Hello everyone! Recently applied to FIU's program, and just wanted to know if anyone out there (there has to be) has also sent in there application. Want to get a feel for my possible future Classmates and general information.

I'm in the process of applying but I need to retake the GRE b/c my last score was not that great.

I am finishing up my application now! Just took the GRE today (thank goodness that's over!) now I just have to finalize my statement and should be good to go!

Hello Exgator, can you recommend the book for GRE please, I need to take the test.

Thanks, Tamara

I used the Magoosh app and online resources. I didn't have a physical book. I installed the Magoosh vocab flash cards as well. The videos on that app are AMAZING!!! There are like 4 DAYS worth of videos. I watched every video and did all the practice questions as well as took several practice tests and I was EXTREMELY happy with my results. I cannot say enough good things about Magoosh! And I loved that I could do it anywhere from my phone.

Hello all! I just submitted my application to FIU's Program. I'm sure I am not the only one who is being smothered by the anxiety of the wait. Can we compare stats???

Mine are as follows:

cumulative gpa 3.78

Nursing gpa 3.89

science gpa: 4.0

3 years CVSICU experience

open heart specialized training course taken 2 years ago

CCRN

I bombed the GRE: 297 combined

i plan to retake next week

LOR: Intensivist, charge nurse, nursing school Chair, CardioThoracic Surgeon.

There are days that I feel my chances are strong and then there are days when I feel I won't be considered.

Any reassurance????

You're chances should be good! I am more worried about my GPA.

Overall GPA 3.18 this needs explanation. Went to school right out of HS and totally partied and totally bombed. Took a year off to do some soul searching. Went to nursing school. Did well in pre-reqs but then ended up pregnant during the program and ended up with mostly C's. Went back to get my BSN and got a 4.0 so hopefully they will look at that as if I have matured.

Science GPA 3.6 (A in organic)

11 years NICU ( preceptor/ mentor)

CCRN

ACLS/PALS/NRP/BLS

GRE 326 (162V 164Q 4.5 AW)

Shadowed 3 CRNA

LOR-- clinical manager, nurse educator, ARNP (bedisde nurse turned NNP) and CRNA

I am worried most about my GPA and the fact that I don't have adult ICU, but I am ready to defend myself on both fronts should I get an interview. Good luck to us all!!

Bomb ass GRE score!

Bomb ass GRE score!

Thanks! I was shocked! But I studied like hell for 3 months!!

Specializes in Neuro-Trauma ICU.

I am currently in FIU's program and finishing my first semester. I got in with an abysmal GPA from my first Bach degree (2.45...yeah, partied a lot, hated my major, young and stupid, you get the picture). Had since then been a Pre-Med student with tons of upper divis tough Science classes and double majored in Nursing School and did well. 6 years Neuro-Trauma ICU experience (5 at time of interview), 302 cum GRE with 4.5 writing, CCRN, relief charge, preceptor, specialty Stroke RN, 30+ hours of shadow time. It's all relative. They will ask you about that GPA, just be honest. PM me if you have any other questions. Good luck.

Im applying this year as well.

gpa: 3.3

gre: 299

3 years ICU
