CRNA FIU Starting Spring 2019

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello everyone! Recently applied to FIU's program, and just wanted to know if anyone out there (there has to be) has also sent in there application. Want to get a feel for my possible future Classmates and general information.

Did you retake your exam? I hope you did better. I hope to see you all as classmates

Update: I went back in for the GRE.... and got a 298 combined. 1 point improvement 🤦🏻*♀️. I will admit that I didn't really study for this GRE business but high school math is like listening to nails on a chalkboard with a freaking tooth ache. I am trying my best to not be so angry with myself. I feel as though I am still a strong candidate. Last 60 credits 4.0, BSN 4.0. I think I submitted a compelling essay and I am praying to Jesus and his mother every hour. The wait has been nothing short of torture. I also applied to UM and Barry... increase my probability. Anyone else apply to other programs? How did you sell yourself on your essays?

I'm so glad I found this thread. Im so nervous! The application deadline is fast approaching. They do wait until the application window closes to send our interview invites right? I sure hope so because I handed in my app back in March!

Stats are looking pretty good here! Mine are as follows...graduated with my ASN GPA 3.35 in 2010. Went pre med route after and graduated with my BS in Biology and minor in health administration GPA 3.95 bringing me to a total cumulative GPA of 3.63 or something like that. Decided medicine was not the road for me...I did well on my my MCAT, had my LORs, etc and totally backed out on applying anywhere. I currently work in trauma ICU where I have 1.5 yrs experience, 1 yr trauma stepdown ICU, 3 years pedi hem/onc and 2 years general peds. Really wanted to stick with peds and do PICU but ended up in Trauma and I dont regret it. The adult world is soooo different and I'm glad I got some experience with adults. GRE score was 317 and I cannot remember my writing...around a 4 I think. Also have CCRN. Sometimes I feel like my little detour away from nursing might work against me. But I have a lot of strong science classes, so Im praying for the best. I wish everybody the best of luck!! Hope to see you guys posting some good news soon!

I put all my eggs in one basket, so I'm prayyyyiiing I dont screw myself over. UM requires 2 years ICU (and is mad expensive!) which I don't quite have and Barry for some reason didnt appeal to me, even though I have a couple friends who are currently in their program. As for my essay, I was just myself! I told them about myself, my journey, and my future goals. And hopefully that's enough! Good luck to you! The GRE is only one factor, kick butt in everything else and you should be just fine.

Has anyone received confirmation that their application is complete. My application status is weird in the system. It says my application is incomplete and the underneath it there is a message that reads:

Application for Review is Complete:* Your application has been referred to the Graduate Department for review.* You will be notified of their decision in writing by our office, when a decision is reached.

I have been emailing the nursing school to ensure that they have received all of my transcripts, but no one is replying. I have already been accepted to another school, but I just wanted to make sure my information was not lost in space.

I know what you mean by the system being weird. Mine just says incomplete. I know they have my application because I handed it in personally. Who have you been emailing? I would try calling also, even though they're pretty bad with that too. Congrats on your acceptance! Do you mind me asking where you got in?

I have emailed staff with the initials JR, CG, and and MD. I spoke with CG on the phone about two weeks ago and she was able to confirm that my application packet along with one of my school transcripts has been received. Then I received an email from another staffer stating that two of of my transcripts were in. I have been accepted to the University of North Florida and I am sure I will be attending this school. I have a great feeling about it. The application process moved so quickly and I was accepted right off the bat. There was a lot of prep work with sending multiple transcripts to FIU and it was kind of costly. At this point I wanted to see if I would be granted an interview. If not, I am pretty secure in my school choice. I am looking forward to a move to Florida either way. Best wishes to everyone. Lord knows the application process is extremely stressful. I am so happy to have some of the anxiety relieved.

I handed in my application personally too. The lady at the desk even went through it in front of me and said it was all good. She said the interview invitations would be out shortly as the interviews are scheduled to start May 9th!! But I just checked online and it still says incomplete. I am getting a little nervous. Hopefully it just hasn't been updated yet!

Does anyone know if FIU has a list of their clinical sites available?

I don't know of a list of sites, but I know they have a contract with Memorial healthcare system.

Thanks!! I am trying to figure out how much out of town traveling they would require.

From what I understand, all clinical locations will be in the Miami/Broward/Palm Beach area. There should not be a need for relocation during the program. Most sites are within an hour drive.
