I have an 8th grade student scheduled to take his ADHD medication at 11am every day. He has not quite gotten into his routine and often forgets. I was unusually slammed most of the morning and dealing with a discipline issue with my child's carpool (Don't you love it when a parent waits until on the brink of an explosion to email you with concerns?) I realized at 11:45 that he was not checked off on my electronic daily medication sheet. Grumbling, I call him out of class, fully intending to read him the riot act for missing his med. He arrives at the door and proclaims that he already got his daily med, and got it on time. I immediately remember his visit and slump in defeat that my age is getting the best of me. I apologize to him and mumble it was a very hectic morning. He quickly comes over to me, pats my back, and tells me that it is OK, it happens to the best of us. Nobody is perfect. I really needed that.....
Yep, as I approach menopause I also get a little help every now and then. They don't mind reminding me and I'm human as well. Students see us as part school family who we help and they help. That is a cute story!
Years ago, after the death of student (who was also a close family friend) I had another student come in and have lunch with me for a week or so, she knew I was holding everyone else together!
