Student Loan Advice

Published

Hi All,

I'm looking for some information on getting a student loan. I have about 1 year of pre-req's to go and am trying to get a plan in place to be able to pay for school (a SW Washington CC). My husband want's me to get a student loan to pay for the remaining schooling I have and save the cash for when I'm in the actual nursing program.

I have no problem with this but, after looking at the loans available I have no idea where to start and what would be the best loan for us or if we will even qualify. I've tried for financial aid but we are a 2 income family (w/2 kids) so that doesn't seem to be an option.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!:-)

Thanks,

To get a low interest government subsidized student loan with safeguards apply for financial aid beginning with completing the FAFSA. Private student loans don't have extra protections and significantly higher interest rates in addition one must have excellent credit or a consigner to get the best rates.

The only way to find out if you are qualified to get subsidized or unsubsidized student loans is to apply for financial aid

It is very easy to qualify for federal student loans, and it would be silly to just not apply because you think you make too much money. My husband makes pretty good money and we still qualify for governments grants and loans. Usually even if you cant get a grant, most people still qualify for federal loans. Just apply with the FAFSA and see what it says you qualify for. You will know within a few days of filing, if you will get aid.
