So, I completed by FNP program... CHECK!
I passed by ANCC exam... CHECK!
I submitted my paperwork for licensure and to obtain my furnishing number to the BRN... CHECK!
BUT I've been told it can take 2 months to get licensed!!
In the meantime, where does that leave us? I have a job waiting... can I start? If so, what are my restrictions? I know I cannot write Rx yet, but can I only practice under the RN scope?
BTW, I am in California.

Aren't you expecting some type of orientation?

My state has a temp license. Allows anything but prescribing. Your state may have something similar.

Hopefully they have an orientation program from you to start on, at the very l;east start shadowing the current providers. Have they hired new-grad NPs before? If so they should be familiar with this. How will you be billing? Incident-to or direct? If you need to be credentialled with the insurance companies that can take many more months.
Don't do anything that is outside your current/active licensed scope!

My job allowed me to start without my license as Long as I had proof that I passed the exam. I received a printout the day of the exam that said I passed. I used that time to start my orientation period but I was only allowed to practice in the scope of a RN.

My orientation as a new grad was 6 weeks long..... I don't think it's the license that takes so long ..... But the credentialing. I think you could start if your employer is okay with it

Many states will grant a "provisional license" of some type or otherwise allow you to work before your formal license is granted -- at least under some circumstances. Your employer should know these rules or you can call your BON.
My state did not have a provisional but if they are willing to cosign your scripts...
