Struggles with finding a nursing job....

Nurses New Nurse

Published

A nursing degree today is a total waste. You will not get hired due to a lack of new grad programs, oversaturation of new grad RNs and an influx of forgein RNs. You will end up unemployed and in debt without any skills that you can use in any other market. Look it up. google "RN New Grads unemployed". NOBODY WILL HIRE NEW GRADS. The scant new grad opportunities that exist see HUNDREDS if applicants for 10-20 positions. Do not waste your money..........do something else----------the RN ship has sailed----it is over.

im just a lowly pre nursing studentlol but have you tried staffing agencies? and i agree w/ other posters it

depends on where u live ......the more ppl in ur city, the larger and the greater amount of hospitals and the greater demand for nurses....there seems to b a shortage in st. louis where i live....i have a sis that lives in chatanooga and could only find work in a male prison......do ur research and find a city that's hiring lots of nurses and maybe consider a move

Yeah, we will see how you feel after the hell of nursing school and nclex only to be told that you need 1-2 years of acute care experience to be hired.

Maybe you have to look in the mirror and ask yourself why nobody wants to hire you. I wouldn't hire because of your attitude and because you would be a cancer on the unit. I guess nobody should go to college because according to you, a college education is useless. Every new grad in any major will have a hard time finding a job right now because of the economy.

Pay your dues and network for a job.

Specializes in homecare/LTC.

WOW!!! are you serious???...I hear really good thing about the program/......maybe its just where u live... im in NC and there are many places looking for new grads w/no exp....besides im a CNA right now doing homecare ...so i see no need to fuss just be patient things will come to you respectfully and positively...smh

PS....Im still heading to Nursing schoool whether I waste my time and money//// soon to be RN 2012

Its ok, YOU have to keep your chin up. The one reason you probably dont have a job starts with the attitude that you show to others. Negativity gets you NO WHERE. So cheer up and keep trying. If you TRUELY WANT, and i mean really WANT to be a nurse then you have to start being more positive, and maybe start talking and doing, rather then posting sad blogs and doing absolutely nothing.

Life is all about timing..the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable become available, the attainable...attainable. Have patience, wait it out, or start looking else where so your dreams can really come true. Time is your worse enemy so only you are held responsible for wasting it.

Good luck you!:yeah:

After reading all the post, the majority have it right. OP, you shouldn't have such a negative attitude especially because you are raining on other people's parades. It's okay to show/say how frustrated you are with the economy but not to persuade others to give up on their dreams. Now, thats just wrong. From an earlier post you wanted a position in acute care but you don't have the experience. Maybe you should consider getting experience in the medical field some place else. I know that I will try volunteering any place while i'm in school so that I can land "ANY" job before I graduate with my BSN. I'm not picky about what job i get just as long as i'm getting the Experience to move up to a better position.

I guess that's your opinion but not everyone thinks that way. I suggest you don't kill the inspiration of future RNs, including myself, just because you can't find a job for yourself. If nursing is someone's goal and passion in life don't ruin it because you never know what the future has in hold for any of us!

The OP has only been licensed for maybe a month or two and is already complaining about not getting a job.

No one owes you a job. You have to work to find that job. Obviously you haven't because I know that not every job posting in the country requires 1 -2 years of acute care experience.

You can't expect to land your dream job right out of school. You need to work at any place that will hire you, get some experience, and then plan a path that will get you into the position you want.

But, clearly no amount of encouragement will get you of the negative track......

Yeah, we will see how you feel after the hell of nursing school and nclex only to be told that you need 1-2 years of acute care experience to be hired.

ok well think about it this way ...no good paying job is gonna pay you those big bucks without a few years under your belt first ..thats just the reality with ANY job. Helll i wouldnt want a new grad working in a busy hospital eaither. I think it would be too overwhelming at first .

yes, if you are in cali, you are going to have to get creative with the job hunt. the students who were offered jobs this last semester were diligent in their search. they took their resumes to each nurse manager on every floor and introduced themselves. our instructors are constantly telling us that you need to do whatever it takes to make yourself stand out from other new grads. volunteer at a floor you would like to work on, or consider ltc, because at least your keeping up your skills. true, they are not necessarily all of the skills in acute care, but you can stay on top of time management, knowing meds, etc. have you taken acls??? im in california as well and the job market is bleak, but it will get better. im sorry you are so frustrated, but hang in there.

at my last place of employment, a job that requires only 15 behavioral science units, they are seeing master's trained therapists applying for these child care worker positions. the job market sucks for everyone in the us right now. maybe take a look at relocating. i hear austin, tx is a hot spot now.....take care.

Specializes in Tele, OB, public health.

MN is also a very difficult place to get a job....I have two interviews in the next ten days...one is for HH, the other is for TCU

they are both on call....

and you know what? I'm thrilled to even have a shot at them! Ideally I will get both jobs, and can cobble together enough hours to scrape by and build up my resume

Do I find it annoying the market is this bad right now? Yup. Am I gonna suck it up and do I what I need to do? Yup.

I find it hard to believe the OP could not find opportunities similar this somewhere.

wow....this just made me feel down and more unsure with nursing now.

i already know that there's so many nursing students..so many people taking up this major.

but from where i am now, i don't think i can still back up.

i've waited for so long to get into this program...

taken so many pre-reqs, now i'm starting this august 30.

i guess i'll just see what happens in the future, i'm sure there's always something good instored for everyone.. :)

so future nurses, don't give up and stay positive.

u might not get hired, but i'm sure there are other jobs out there that u can do even when ur a nursing graduate.

Specializes in Critical Care, Surgical ICU.

WOW, really. Guess that's why I graduated in May and was accepted into a top residency program that just started in July with almost 200 others. Maybe you need to look at yourself and stop being a negative nellie. Dust yourself and try again get a new attitude and then maybe someone will want to hire you. Don't rain on the parade of those of us who are PROUD to be new registered nurses.
