  1. I know your pain. Graduated 2010 and still no dice. My license is up for renewal and I do not plan to pay the $150. Why invest more money into a lost cause? The majority of my class is unhirable/stale-grad with no hope. I too applied to SNF’s, LTC, hospitals (not picky of floor or shift), drug rehab, adult daycare, hospice, military—EVERYTHING IN MY STATE. I was willing to move at the drop of a hat. All to no avail. I view nursing as the biggest mistake of my life. But hey, when I went back to school recruiters were at the schools asking student to go to work for them. Now you will be lucky to get a 1-2 call backs from 200 applications. You better be bilingual, have experience and/or know somebody to get you in. If not you can kiss nursing goodbye. As an added bonus, the degree is absolutely worthless in the work-world outside of nursing. The degree and license has turned out to be worth less than the paper and plastic they are printed on for the majority of those who graduated RN school 2009-2010 and 2011 will see the same. People say "it will pick up", but the statistics (remember those) show otherwise. the economy is getting worse with no sign of getting better.
  2. I love it when people say/state that. Yes, I looked EVERYWHERE--tried everything and every setting. Same answer every time= "Must have 1-2 years acute experience". There is no nursing shortage. Hospitals are cutting back and LAYING OFF experienced nures. New grads do not stand a chance unless you have an in. Nursing schools should stop spitting out new grads. It is turning into a scam for school admin to profit. Sad, really sad to get people's hopes up through nursing school only to graduate then with a useless degree.
  3. Saw this on Craigs list------rings true: "Well, after a year of getting rejected I have finally decided to give nursing the bird. **** YOU NURSING FIELD! Too bad the schools and media are still insisting that people go to RN school. Believe me THERE IS NO ******* SHORTAGE! New grads are considered garbage. On top of that, the degree serves no purpose in any other setting. BSN is a complete waste of time and money. I know, “some people got jobs”. That does not justify the majority (1000’s) who did not and are now working retail for minimum wage. There is something fundamentally wrong with this country. My school counselors, nursing instructors, media and nurses I know urged me to go into nursing. As soon as I got my degree and the check to the school cleared I heard the unmistakable sound of the door to nursing closing---slamming actually. And it is not just the economy. Hospitals turning huge profits stopped new grad programs and hire from agencies. It is over. I am a stale grad and I am out of options. The new graduates fresh out of their precepts will be flooding the market to add to the already rancid oversaturated pool of disgruntled STALE GRADS. So, I guess giving up a nice job for school, dedicating 6 years (yes, I was foolish enough to get the BSN), dropping 20 grand and putting up with nursing school stress was all for nothing. And no, higher education is out for 2 reasons. One, you need RN experience to qualify for any NP program. Second, why would I throw more money at a system that just failed me and ruined my life? It is clear that the educational system is bunk. I am completely embarrassed at the education I experienced at the California State University--It is appauling. I hate nursing. I hate it so ******* much now. The true colors of the profession are now clear. So, now society can have a derelict because that is what I intend to become. I now plan to make a living mooching off the system."
  4. right now it is taking about a year (no less) to sign up and go to officer training. I talked to the recruiter a week ago and the earliest I will start is next June or August.
  5. It is 3 years active and 5years inactive reserve. I will be stationed stateside and deployment overseas is guaranteed. Air force deployments are for 6 months. You could be sent to war zone (very likely) or to humanitarian effort (less likely).
  6. Well, I have made a decision---I am joining the Air Force Nursing Corp. I speak to a recruiter today. I am done complaining and have progressed from anger to acceptance. I have applied to everything under the sun to no avail. Last week I bumped into a girl who graduated with her BSN a year before me. She has gone 16 months and still no job or any prospects of one. I do not want to end up like that. I guess it comes down to what you are willing to sacrifice. I wish things were different,,,,,but they are not. I just have to roll with the punches and do what I have to do to see this thing through. Below are my options: Try to get into non-paid New Grad internship with hopes of the hospital hiring me. I spoke with the director of the program and she said I have a good chance of getting in. She also said that a job can materialize, but that it is not necessarily the case. Air Force: 3 year hitch. Would gain unmatchable RN experience, get paid and secure my future by having an impeccable resume. I will update as things progress.
  7. Yeah, we will see how you feel after the hell of nursing school and nclex only to be told that you need 1-2 years of acute care experience to be hired.
  8. A nursing degree today is a total waste. You will not get hired due to a lack of new grad programs, oversaturation of new grad RNs and an influx of forgein RNs. You will end up unemployed and in debt without any skills that you can use in any other market. Look it up. google "RN New Grads unemployed". NOBODY WILL HIRE NEW GRADS. The scant new grad opportunities that exist see HUNDREDS if applicants for 10-20 positions. Do not waste your money..........do something else----------the RN ship has sailed----it is over.
  9. Wow, what a monumental mistake I have made. I threw away a decent job to go back to school. I went back and got by BS in nursing. Now I am a licensed RN BSN with no future. When I went back to school I was told how the hospitals were screaming for nurses and how I would be able to "write my own ticket". Well, that is ********. There is not and never was a nursing shortage. NOBODY WILL HIRE A NEW GRAD. Unfortunately, I was not the only one to fall for the RN shortage line. 1000's of RN new grads are being spit out each year creating a mass oversaturated pool of unemployable, inexperienced RNs. Your local hospitals are too ******* cheap to have new grad programs so they import foreigners, most of which are Filipino, instead. So, now what? I have a degree that is useless--my prior job is gone and I have no marketable job skills after 5 years in college. I have never been so disappointed in my life. Yours, Unemployed future "stale grad" with no prospects RN
  10. I passed w/ 76 questions
  11. I wish I never went back to school for nursing. It has made me nearly suicidal for the last 6 years. Now I am studying for the NCLEX. Yeah, like I am going to have total recall of all the info from the last 3 years. I am doing the Kaplan trainers and am doing horrible. I get about 50% right after practicing with over 600 questions. I just can not remember all the info. Additionally, the schooling lasted so long that I have lost all drive to continue. I really no longer care about nursing. When I started school I was so jazzed, but now I feel like the carrot dangled in front of my nose for too long and my passion for the career has faded. I wish I never went for nursing. I doubt I will pass the NCLEX. If I don't pass I predict my drive will fall further. Then I will be stuck with a useless BSN. Wow, I feel like I have made a huge mistake.
  12. I start a BSN program in the fall. It seems that all I hear is how much people dislike the program. I also hear a lot of new nurses stating how much they dislike their jobs. I wonder if I made the right career choice. Is anybody happy with nursing?
