I'M Really struggling with my micro class, more so in lab. I just failed a lab midterm. Feeling really down . I have a B over all in class. Not making excuses but our instructor is really hard to follow its been a lot of self taught others have struggled with hee other classes . But I have to get threw it she's the only instructor. but when I don't do so well or find it a struggle I have to wonder if I will be able to grasp concepts in nursing school ... I have worked in health care since I was 18 I am now 28 decided I could now start school. I work my butt off between family and school but feeling like mayve it's not enough ? Has anyone found they really struggled in some science classes but did ok in nursing program? I Excell at math so that's a plus lol I get Chem just fine. I really do like a and p as well.. but this class just killing me.

Hey I just wanted to share something I learned today. Two of my biology teachers confided that they got C's in science classes as undergrads. One got 3 C's in gen chem, orgo, and biochem. The other got 2 C's one in AP and I forget what else. They are both PhD's and very smart in their respected fields as well as other fields. So I just wanted to say don't get discouraged. I've heard people who get straight A's have failed out of nursing classes. I guess it's very individual and a B or C in a science class doesn't determine a thing, neither does an A. It depends on your school, but your grade in micro, as long as it meets the min requirement, is not going to be the make or break to getting in the nursing program either.

There are so many comments on different threads about how good grades in all your prereqs doesn't equal success in nursing school. It's all about critical thinking and choosing best answer when there may be several "right" answers. I work in a Dr.'s office and was just telling the nurses how disappointed I am in myself for not retaining a lot of the info I learned in some of my science prereqs. They assured me it's not a big deal and you learn majority on the job. I'd experiment with different styles of studying too. I'm visual and it helps me to draw pictures of concepts that I have trouble with, like the genetic stuff

Try looking up some of the lab material on Youtube. My micro instructor would show us some of the videos and it really helped. I thought the lab part was much harder than the lecture. Maybe draw pictures to see if that will help you. Also, maybe consider finding someone who is doing well with the lab portion and see if they can help you. Good luck!

I am struggling with microbiology too. But I only have a C in the class. I sure hope I can pull this grade up. I did not do well on the exam. I think if I do at least 75-80 on next two exams and get all my work in with at least 90% I should be able to pull a B in the class. I know I should be striving for an A but I am just trying to hold my own right now. I really should be more positive. I hope that this isn't a sign of being a poor nurse, not excelling in microbiology. I hope I can do this. Good luck to you and much success in your nursing career.

Good luck to you too !

What I have seen is that people tend to do really well in either Chem or Bio, but not both. Its tough but you seem to have the right attitude. If I was you, I would make sure you can make it out with a B minimum. Join a tutoring group, some are lead by past students who excel in that area. That way you would be getting a second way of looking at or explanation. If your a visual/verbal learner find some people that you like on youtube or Khan academy. That is how I got through chem (did great in bio, but hated chem). Good Luck!

I skimmed by micro with barely a B. It had a lot of memorization. I loved the lab, but not the exams.. I think micro is a harder one for a lot of people.
