I'm a second year nursing student and have not yet had L&D. I've heard from family and friends that if a doctor ever tries to strip your membranes to tell them absolutely not. What exactly is stripping membranes? Is it really bad for you? One of them said it made a hole tear in the amniotic sac and caused her baby to get pneumonia during the birthing process. Does this really happen, or is she just trying to place blame?
That's not very nice
Ya think.
Here is my take on this.

If this is true, this person needs to learn how to use search engines effectively. The OP will not be able to come running here every time there is a question. The OP's journey into nursing school is close to the beginning. If there is any hope of seeing it to the finish, a student needs to be very literate in the use of internet search engines. There is a phenomenal amount of information available, if you know how to get to it. That is why "Google is your friend".
Anymore, computer literacy is as important to finishing nursing school as is your performance in school itself, IMO.

I have actually had a better experience with Dogpile.com as opposed to Google. I have found Google to be a bit difficult to weed through---it gives you almost too much info. I have to agree with Bob, though. I tend to not even read the threads by those who seem to want us to do their work for them.
she wasn't even asking for an assignment. she was asking about a personal experience and was asking WHY... she wanted to know from nurses in the field. she probably thought this was a safe place to ask. plus, the answer that she is wanting isn't that readily available on the internet (i doubt it is). she said, i haven't even HAD OB yet! she wanted to know if that could cause a pneumonia or other complications in babies.
as for the midwife... if it were me, and i was on a UK site, and someone mentioned a procedure I wasn't familar with, i'd probably just ask and go on... there are SO many cultural difference, I'd just hope someone would just answer me so I could give my feedback. i wouldn't take the time if i were just searching an informal nursing board.
i'd back off if i were you. it was not a stupid question. now, if it was someone who was writing "OMG!!! I have to write a paper on stripping membranes and it is due at 0900 tomorrow! It's 0000 now HELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!" (now, we know that we occasionallly get those...) i could see the use of that little graphic and the comment. but here, i just don't see the purpose of it.

Thanks for that, then yes have heard of it and performed it many times. Not pleasant for the woman not nice for the midwife because you know it is not great. Have had good success rate with membrane sweeps but believe it is a 50/50 thing
