StonyBrook ABSN: Class of 2021

Published

Hi all,

Thought I'd start a thread here so we can connect. I am in the process of taking my pre-reqs and plan to submit my application by the Oct 2019 deadline for the Summer 2020 start.

I'm planning on attending the Sept 19 info session on campus - anyone else going?

Didn't they only interview 160 applicants? (correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I remember). I'm surprised that the delay would be due to processing applications/documents if they can only choose from a pool of 160.

That’s why this is so strange to me! And from my understanding, the class size is 80 students.

This is seriously bananas lol

Maybe they aren't even choosing from the people who interviewed???? Like choosing from all the applicants ? Because why would they say high volume of applicants...

From my understanding you cannot be accepted if you weren't selected to interview so that's why I'm like ???

I think they’re lying lol

I think there was some kind of issue or change due in part to the new dean and they’re trying to pretend the delay is because of “volume”. During my interview they told me there were only about 400-500ish applications submitted, which is either comparable or less than previous years.

It’s pointless wondering why. We would just have to wait.

Yeah I 100% agree with you!! I think it is due to something else!

That’s true. But I know I’m going to ruminate about this regardless. It just helps to share my frustration with all of you guys ?

I agree, @alymship. I wonder if they're trying to be more holistic with their screening rather than focusing on GPA as in previous years (I think someone had mentioned this earlier on this forum?). I have no idea, but I agree that ruminating about it is helpful!!

I hope that that’s the case! I still feel like this is a long time to pick 80 of 160 people, though. I’m extra frustrated/nervous/everything else because I feel poorly about how my interview went and to have waited 3 months for a rejection letter would suck ?

My stress level just sky rocketed. I'm enrolled at another university that legit starts 2 weeks from now....

I doubt they are taking a holistic approach if it’s taking this long. Some applicants come from a private college and have a different timeline in submitting course grades than CUNY/SUNY schools. Clinical experience might help, but based on my interview it does not seem to be necessary. Personally, I would like an applicant to have experience, because at least they know what they are getting themselves into.
