Stony Brook Nursing Basic BSN Fall 2013 applicants

Hey guys! So I just applied to the SBU Basic (2 year) program a couple of days ago. I thought it would be nice to start a forum. Feel free to ask any questions! And good luck to all who are applying!!!

I am working on my personal essay too , very nervous and express all myself.. how many page you guys did personal essay ? mine was 4 page but now i trimmed and made it 2.5 half page. it says no more then 3 to 5 page so i think 2.5 page would be ok ? or should i make it 3 full page ?

my grade are all A and A- so that why i am boosting my personal essay .. Do you think this fall 2013 gonna be competitive as before that saying 700 ppl apply and 70 ppl get in only ?

Hey Ozgur404 my essay is done, I'm just having friends and family edit it for me. I hope to submit all by tomorrow. My essay is 5 pages. I think they want no less than 3 no more than 5. You're lucky you have all A's. I don't. :( however, I just started a job at SBU medicine as a CNA so I hope that helps me somehow. It's gonna be competitive, it always is ... Anywhere and everywhere. I will submit tomorrow too , i don't wanna wait until Monday . i didn't want to bother admission team by reading long essay.. since they gonna read a lotttt essay it better short and clear but pure information which reflect you..

I hope we will get in the program .. But as you know the grade not the key for program . they key is for the program actually the essay .. In addition you have CNA , so you are familiar already to nursing . I work at hotel in NYC . i had business degree with 4 year accountant experience from my country. So I hope my work experience and hospitality experience will help me :) cross finger for all of us.

also i got accepted one of CUNY college in Brooklyn for nursing and i am starting there but is A.S. degree which will take 2 year, plus 2 more yr for BSN. well long way.. its my backup .. def wanna go SBU.. Cant imagine big campus and hospital in it ..so much opportunity to do practice

does anyone know the average number of applications for stony brook by the way?? And how many seats there are in the program?

I just submitted my application too , i cant remember how many time i read it before submit and asked to read my friends to read my essay :)

I cant wait to see results . Last year as I read here that it was delay pretty the results .

Questions regarding the seats in the program- there are a total of 72 of us i believe, with over 700 applicants. Our decisions were delayed, i did not find out until May 10th. However, last year, they were going through the re-accreditation process which was a reason for the delay. The prior year heard mid-April. Good luck to you all!

Also an other question is , as we know there is a hospital in campus and is there opportunity to do volunteer position toward to improve real life practice?

I just started working at the hospital and they have lots of volunteer opportunities! Check out the sbu website and click under the "volunteer" link!

i am thinking about it after i got in program , cos that moment i wont work , just wil be student . and planing to be spend my most time in hospital def .. .

starting end of january i will be taking first semester of nursing classes at CUNY plus working full time as always . but if get in program i will leave my job and program at cuny.. probably it wont able to transfer any nursing class but it would be good information for my first semester at SBU
