Stony Brook FNP Summer 2018

Published

Hi all!

Was hoping to get a thread going for applicants to the Stony Brook FNP program for 2018. I submitted my application a week or two ago and got an email for an interview on Monday. Anyone else??

My interview is scheduled for Tuesday 12/12 at 11:15 am. I know there is a group component - anyone else going in for this slot??

Hoping to meet you all in the spring!

I have a question for those doing either the FNP or ANP online program, are you concerned about clinical placements? I have two additional choices for my ANP, both local to me, very expensive compared to SBU, but offer clinical placements. What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

I have heard finding clinical placements in the stony brook program can be stressful. But everyone somehow finds a way to get it done. If it were me I would go to SBU and save the $$ it's like half the price of anywhere else!

Thanks, Clkz! I was incorrect in the local colleges' findings preceptors and clinical placements-they do not. So I am reassured that my decision to attend SBU is the best choice! My orientation date is 4/16, will anyone else be there?

This is something that I am concerned about as well. I work at NYU and have heard that many of the clinical sites will only allow NYU students placement. I am hoping that networking will assist me in finding decent options for clinical placements. Was hoping that some SBU grads might weigh in on this process.

would be great if there is a Facebook group! I'd like to be a part of it if there is one..

Hello all, congrats on your acceptance. Can you guys give any feedback of the program. Are classes online? How is school- work-family balance?

Hi Cece!

Most of the lecture portions are online, minus 2 or 3 times for on campus visits. The clinical portion of the program is local to your area, you secure preceptors. The programs challenging at times but is manageable!

Hi everyone, just applied to the FNP programs for 2019 and I have an interview in a couple weeks! Just curious, someone told me there was a mini test at the end of the interview... she started last year, did anyone else have to take a test or questions of any kind? It's making me nervous! Thanks!

Hi and good luck! My interview was a group interview via zoom, there was no test.

Hi everyone. I applied for the FNP program starting in 2019 and I interview on Wednesday. I have a general question about the structure of the program. I know the program takes 3 years to complete, but how many semesters does that consist of? I read that the program begins in May... does it go year round where you do a summer semester, then fall, then spring, then repeat? Or do you have summers off with no classes? Only reason why I ask is that I am confused when the actual clinical portion of the program takes place. I emailed the school and someone told me that the clinical takes place "the last 4 semesters." What does that mean? Does that mean that the first year of the program is all online classes, and then the last two years consist of classes and clinical? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello all. Are the lectures on video or is it lecture notes?

Wow. When I interviewed in Dec. they def. said end of jan./beginning of Feb. I'm not surprised though, SBU is always the last to send out acceptance letters. It sucks because I have to accept/decline to the other school I got accepted to 2 wks from today.
