  3. Hello my fellow nurses! I have worked as a mental health nurse since past two years. I have been waiting for an opportunity to transitioning to a different speciality. Finally! I have two job interviews scheduled at St. Joseph's Hospital. I am being interviewed for MICU and Telemetry units. I am a little nervous. There is this stigma out there towards nurses from a mental health background I want to do it right, give my best shot to nail it. Any suggestions on how to prepare for the interview and what to expect. Thank you for your help!
  4. Hello Nurses, I am NY State RN. Finding a job was a nightmare for me after I received my license. I took up a job in a specialty that I didn't plan to work into but, since it was my only option I embraced it. I have been working as a Psych Nurse since the past 1.5 years now. After gaining a year's experience I have been applying in hospitals for a med-surge, ED, Medical unit positions. No Luck. Is it really that hard to switch gears? Has anyone gone through the same? At this point I am so desperate I am ready to take any position that's not Psych. I hate this feeling of being pigeon holed. Please share your thoughts. I need some encouragement/ help.
  5. I just came across this agency called Worldwide Travel Staffing (easily searchable on google). I know a few nurses who have been placed through them making a decent amount of money, mainly places in NC. Good Luck choosing what's best for you!
  6. Hello nurses, I have one year experience as a psych. nurse. I wish to go back to school for a NP program. Do colleges usually accept candidates in a FNP program who have an experience in psychiatry? I wish to go for a FNP instead of a Psych. NP. All feedback will be helpful. Thank you.
  7. Dear Teacher Sue, would you consider interviewing a nurse with 1 year of experience in a Psych Center, who is v.decent and v.professional? or the psych center experience leaves her under the line of being qualified for a telemetry job opening?
  8. Thanks dariah, I asked you because I just had an interview at Coney Island Hospital, thanks for the insight
  9. Why avoid city hospitals? Is there a dark side of working with city hospitals?
  10. Thank you all for responding :)
  11. It's sad, desperate job seekers become victims of such scams. I have a question: even if someone gets information of ones nursing license and their number, can they seriously cause trouble or misuse their registration? (gosh! This is scary)
  12. Hi! CRNA program requires you to have 1 year post licensure experience in critical care unit. You should have a bachelors in nursing to get into the CRNA program. It cost about $30,000-$40,000/year for the course. And the course duration is no less than 24 months. CRNA is one of the most competitive courses in the nursing field. Good luck!
  13. I wish this was true! I am a new grad and I worked very hard to get hired in ICU. I think it depends on the state. In New York its quite impossible!
  14. How and where do you apply for such medical mission trips / missionary nurse ? Are there any sites someone could post? Thank you.
