Interview help, suggestions or tips needed PLEASE!
Hello my fellow nurses! I have worked as a mental health nurse since past two years. I have been waiting for an opportunity to transitioning to a different speciality. Finally! I have two job interviews scheduled at St. Joseph's Hospital. I am being interviewed for MICU and Telemetry units. I am a little nervous. There is this stigma out there towards nurses from a mental health background I want to do it right, give my best shot to nail it. Any suggestions on how to prepare for the interview and what to expect. Thank you for your help!

Changing Specialities .. Psych to Medicine
Hello Nurses, I am NY State RN. Finding a job was a nightmare for me after I received my license. I took up a job in a specialty that I didn't plan to work into but, since it was my only option I embraced it. I have been working as a Psych Nurse since the past 1.5 years now. After gaining a year's experience I have been applying in hospitals for a med-surge, ED, Medical unit positions. No Luck. Is it really that hard to switch gears? Has anyone gone through the same? At this point I am so desperate I am ready to take any position that's not Psych. I hate this feeling of being pigeon holed. Please share your thoughts. I need some encouragement/ help.

Best Travel Companies
I just came across this agency called Worldwide Travel Staffing (easily searchable on google). I know a few nurses who have been placed through them making a decent amount of money, mainly places in NC. Good Luck choosing what's best for you!

Can a psych. Nurse be accepted for a FNP program?
Hello nurses, I have one year experience as a psych. nurse. I wish to go back to school for a NP program. Do colleges usually accept candidates in a FNP program who have an experience in psychiatry? I wish to go for a FNP instead of a Psych. NP. All feedback will be helpful. Thank you.

Please quit wasting my time: Interview Advice from Hiring Manager
Dear Teacher Sue, would you consider interviewing a nurse with 1 year of experience in a Psych Center, who is v.decent and v.professional? or the psych center experience leaves her under the line of being qualified for a telemetry job opening?

I have a concern about this job opportunity!!
It's sad, desperate job seekers become victims of such scams. I have a question: even if someone gets information of ones nursing license and their number, can they seriously cause trouble or misuse their registration? (gosh! This is scary)

Can an Indian living in India pursue CRNA course after completing BSN in India?
Hi! CRNA program requires you to have 1 year post licensure experience in critical care unit. You should have a bachelors in nursing to get into the CRNA program. It cost about $30,000-$40,000/year for the course. And the course duration is no less than 24 months. CRNA is one of the most competitive courses in the nursing field. Good luck!

Why are hospitals more interested in taking on new grads in the ICU?
I wish this was true! I am a new grad and I worked very hard to get hired in ICU. I think it depends on the state. In New York its quite impossible!

I have a concern about this job opportunity!!
So, i read about this job post on craigslist.com in New York,NY. Which said they need a RN to work 12hour shifts, for a Rehab. client in NYC and they offer an initial 8 hour training. Now this is the picture:- Its about a client who has been brought into a Rehab. Center in NYC from Hawaii. The client has drug orders from a Doctor in Hawaii, which includes steroid therapy and seizure medication. The Rehab. center where the client is admitted refused to give out those medications as they were not ordered from a Doctor from their facility. Which is why, they need a nurse to administer those prescribed drugs. My concern is: does this sound sane? or by taking this position I'll be risking my nursing license?

So frustrated I could cry
Dear designer-mommy, sorry to hear about what you are going through. I pray things get better with you. I came from India after my BSN and went through so much, I worked at a coffee shop for $7.25/hour and they wouldn't let me work 40 hours a week if their business was running low. I did a nursing assistant's course while I worked at the coffee shop and started to work as a CNA, while working my way up to be an RN in United States. And, sometimes I couldn't help but cry. All I could tell you is don't give up, there are some good people around who would offer you a job, all you got to do is keep looking. Door to door job hunting helps in such a situation. phelbotomist, tech-jobs are usually given after you pass a certification exam. See if you or your husband could sign-up for any such certification course(usually 1 month long), if possible. I don't know how much my response helped you, But I wish you the best. Hang in there!! God Bless

Failed NCLEX RN... Just needing some encouragement
Dear nurses, I hope and pray that you all wouldn't be discouraged or lose hope. Believe that you can do it ( that's the main key) Just be sure with your content, normal values, and master the strategies that they use to question you on the NCLEX-RN, practice your question ( the alternate format ones especially) One thing that really helped me was the question trainer on the Kaplan online review course. If you could get your hands on it, that would greatly help you in strategically figuring out the correct answer. Wish you all the luck!!

What is a Psych Nurse's daily routine?
hello! I should be starting to work at a Psych. Center in 2 weeks, mean while I am taking time to go through my psych. text books and review a few conditions, drugs and terminologies. I have a concern that a Psych. facility works a lot differently than a medical one. How differently am I expected to work? How are the daily unit routines? What documentation/ duties am I expected to perform different from a medical unit? Also if any one has any data of any protocols that are followed or a list of guide lines on what to expect myself doing at a psych facility, please share it. I just want to go prepared so that avoid making any mistakes!

Choosing b/w Psych. Center and Veterans Nursing Home!!
Hi majisdicp, The LTC and the Psych both are state jobs, the LTC is not a VA job, its just a veterans home, sorry for the confusion!!

Choosing b/w Psych. Center and Veterans Nursing Home!!
hi gingerbell, i am not too sure if the nursing home has a acute care floor, i am thinking more upon taking the nursing home side as this place will slightly keep me more inclined to the med-surge side. psych is a different adventure in itself, just hoping i don't take too long to decide, b'cos i am very slow at decision making. the one good part that i see in both jobs is that they are state jobs and it will give me an option of a transfer. thank you so much for writing gingerbell and meriwhen:) god bless

Choosing b/w Psych. Center and Veterans Nursing Home!!
Hello All!! I have had a hard time getting hired as a RN, job hunting is not the best thing to do in the world as all of you know. I finally have two job prospects, both away from where I live and I will have to relocate. One is a Psych. Center and other is a Nursing home. What could be the pros and cons of taking either jobs. If I take the Psych job, I don't wish to end up in psych forever, and if I take the nursing home job I don't wish to be a Rehab./LTC nurse all my life. I just wish to gain some experience that increases my chances of getting hired into a good hospital, where I could advance my career. Any advice or comment will be appreciated. Thanks!!

Psych. Nurse Job
I have been job hunting for more than 7 months with no luck / no interviews. attempt after attempt nothing happened. Finally, I am being called for an interview upstate NY Psych facility. Its about 8 hour drive from where I live right now but I can be eligible for a transfer since this is a State job. I am not a fan of Psychiatric Nursing but at this point of time I am ready to take up anything. But, I don't wish to end up in the Psych. Field all my life. How high are the chances of a Nurse with Psych Unit experience, to shift gears and make a landing into a Med Surge / Pediatrics ? Help...
