Stony Brook FNP Interview

Published

Hello to all, I just received an email for the FNP interview @ Stony Brook School of Nursing. I am wondering if anyone had the interview and what kind of questions they ask during the interview? I heard it's a group interview, how does it work? Thanks in advance, any information would help, appreciated!!

Yes I had to do the application all over again (I used the same essay that I just tweaked a little) resend transcripts and get letters of recommendation again. One thing I didn't know the first time I applied is that you don't need official transcripts until after you're accepted so the unofficial copies you attach to your application are fine.

I am so excited for FNP orientation and to meet all of you! I am coming from Brooklyn, NY and plan on taking LIRR to get to orientation. I looked up the train schedule and the earliest train gets to Stony Brook at 746a and then I would have to take the shuttle or an über/taxi. It will definitely be cutting it close!

I was wondering if anyone lives close to campus that wouldn't mind have me stay overnight the night before? Or is anyone coming from the NYC area that would want to carpool?

Another idea I had is to get a hotel room at the Hilton on campus but that's like $230 a night so that is worst case scenario. But if we shared it with like 4 girls that might not be so bad.

PM me if any of the options sound interesting to you!! Can't wait to get started with school.

Hi Tourerviolet,

As an alternative there is another hotel option, The Holiday Inn Stony Brook. It is less expensive and only a 5-10 min drive for which they provide a free shuttle that runs every 30 minutes starting at 7am- 9:30pm. They also give complimentary "express breakfast" ( I am not sure what that means lol). Rates are 133/night with taxes and fees comes to 150/night.

I have family in the area but I haven't discussed staying with them or having them take me to the hospital by 8am. :) If they cannot take me, I will be booking a room here and am open to the option of sharing with someone.

PS I received this email with Orientation details today:

Good morning,

Our graduate programs are very competitive and our seating is limited, thus we have a list of alternates in place should you decide not to accept this offer. As of now, your seat has been reserved for this orientation. I must, however, receive acknowledgment of your intended attendance at orientation by email before April 12, 2016. The date of orientation (April 19th, 2016) was announced during all interviews sessions to give all ample time to make the necessary adjustments.

If I do not receive this acknowledgment, we will need to make the assumption that you will be unable to attend orientation and therefore be unable to enter the program in the Summer of 2016.

We will then offer your seat to an alternate applicant for admission. If you choose not to accept admission this year, you will have to reapply when the time is right for you. Please be advised that University Policy states that we cannot use any documentation (i.e. transcripts, reference letters etc.) from past application dockets.

Ooooo that's awesome! Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it. Let me know if you want to end up sharing a room. Hopefully you can stay with family though.

Hi everyone!! I applied for the ANP program in Sept '15, interviewed in Nov '15, and received my acceptance a couple of weeks ago- wondering if anyone else has been accepted to the ANP program?

Congrats! I was accepted into the adult np program as well. other than the required health forms, have you received any other information? like when is orientation?

Congrats to all.... I received my acceptance letter into the DNP program!

Congratulations! I haven't received any other info at this time - no orientation date etc. Anxiously waiting so I can make plans for the summer

I'll keep you posted, and please do the same

How long is the ANP program? I am getting conflicting times

I believe they are all 3 years summer, fall, spring. Start Summer 2016 finish May 2019 at the end of the spring semester. I think summer session is 8 weeks so in August we she get a break for a few weeks.

I believe 3 years. I received an email asking to RSVP for orientation on the 25th

I will be starting the PMHNP program. It is also 3 years, but this confuses me. It is 45-48 credits. Nine semesters. How does that work?
