Stony Brook Basic BSN Class of 2018

Published

Hey Everyone,

Now that the deadline for the class of 2018 Basic BSN program at Stony Brook University is coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to and for all applicants. I hope there isn't already a thread made already because I searched thoroughly but could not find one. If you have any questions or just want to talk feel free to comment. Best of luck to all of you on your applications!

I'm pretty nervous for the interview specifically the writing sample. I've always had a hard time writing so hopefully that isn't the deal breaker for me. Good luck to everyone maybe some of us will be in the same interview!

Don't sweat it, the way it works is that they score you on your interview, math and writing test. People who score the highest combined get into the program.

If that's the case, is the rest of the persons application useless like recommenders, personal statement, transcript, resume, etc?

I don't know that but that's essentially what one of the professors told us during our med-math class when we were worried about our test. She said, you wouldn't have made it into the program if you didn't get atleast the minimum on the math test.

Hi everyone, I just found this thread. Anyone receive an email for an interview this week? I'm so nervous that I won't be getting an interview. But congrats to the ones who go one!

I received an email last week for the interview! I'm going on February 16th at 10am. I'm nervous for the math portion of the interview so I'm going to do some practice questions every day. Anyone else get an interview yet?

I really need to do well on the math to make up for my lack of writing skills

I recently received an email for the interview. How long is the writing sample and the math? Is the math multiple choice? Also, for the writing are they general questions related to nursing?

So I asked my friend about how each things are weighed. You get certain points for ypur GPA, recommendation letters, interview, and math and english test. According to him, the GPA and recommendations are weighed the heaviest.

What is the interview process like? Is the writing sample and math test timed?

The interview is a group interview, so you will be interviewed by 3/4 faculty with about 5 other candidates. The writing sample and math test are given at the same time and you have to complete both within an alloted time (I forgot how muc time).

Okay, thank you so much! For the writing sample, is it related to nursing or just general questions? Btw after your interview, how long did you wait before getting your acceptance email?
