Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2015

Published

It's almost september, which means people are starting to get their applications for nursing together real soon. I'm currently in the 1-yr nursing program here at Stony Brook. A previous alum started the 2014 thread for us, so I figured I do the same. Feel free to ask questions or message me with them. Good luck to everyone applying! :)

Hey yz9550, my interview is on Monday as well. IIt's at 2:00PM though. When's yours?

ab2790 mine was at 9am. They were very friendly... Hope it went well for u =]

Did they say when decisions would be sent out?

End of this month.

Anyone else getting calls for interviews still?

No :-( I might be wrong but I think Monday was the last day for interviews

I applied on the 17th and never got a call back neither... Gah. So nervewrecking.

It really doesnt make sense that they would accept applicants who weren't interviewed because it's unfair for applicants who actually came in for an interview and took the exam.

I understand it's a new thing they're trying to implement, but why would they accept people who didnt get interviewed?

What determines them to get an interview? Is it random?

Guess we'll find out late nov/early dec

Yea you are right ... The only thing i can think of is if they only interviewed a certain amount of people and they are only selecting some people from the interviews? Who knows but at least only a few more weeks of waiting to go

Mmm I would think they would pick from the group of people who were interviewed but also pick people who werent interviewed who had outstanding grades, essay, rec, personal statement, healthcare related exp?

I mean thats the only reason I could think of for those who didn't get an interview; either they were qualified and didnt need interview or they were not qualified for the program :(

I know Im def not overqualified so I guess that puts me in the second category but yea we'll see in a few weeks!

who is saying that you can still be accepted without being interviewed? Is it just students guessing?

I don't see any reason why they would admit those that never got a chance for an interview. (Jeez.. I really hope I'm wrong here) *Fingers and toes crossed* Have you guys applied to any other schools? And do you guuys know of any accelerated programs that accept students with a little below 3.0

The minimum for acceptance at Stony Brook, according to their website, is a 2.8 cumulative GPA. This is actually the lowest that I have seen, as most programs state on their websites that only applicants with GPAs of at least 3.0 will be competitive for admission. However, I have also gathered that SBU is very holistic in how they review their applicant pool, so I think that if there is a program out there that will accept an applicant with a GPA >3.0 (but who shines in almost every other way possible), then it would be Stony Brook. Just my two cents!
