Stony Brook ABSN Class of 2022

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Stony Brook School of Nursing has recently opened the undergraduate application portal for the 2021 school year. I was part of an allnurses thread for their Basic BSN program last year, and the information and support from other applicants was amazing; so I jumped on creating a thread for this cycle as soon as applications became available.

Any questions or even just casual discussion about the program is more than welcome! Can’t wait to talk to all of you. ?

Oh cool! I took Microbiology in June and Lifespan development and Human Nutrition in July. I needed Nutrition for other programs I’m applying to.

Hey everyone! I was wondering if you guys knew whether we should include hobbies/interests on the resume. I know some schools want that portion for a more holistic view, while others prefer not to have one!

@freddyJ620 @meg n I myself haven’t taken Lifespan Development. When I went to an info session last year, they said Child Psychology (which I took at SCCC) could also be accepted as LD. Would either of you happen to know if that still stands? I only ask because Stony Brook SON got a new Dean last year, and I don’t know if she changed any requirements.

I never heard any specifics of what SBSON wants on a resume. I didn’t include that section on mine when I applied last year, but I don’t think it would hurt if you do chose to include it.

I didn’t include my hobbies or anything in my resume, I kept it very professional and included my volunteer hours in my local Nursing Home, TA experience, Research Assistant experience, and other relevant experiences. Most of my resume included my clinical experiences as a Nursing Assistant and Telemetry Monitor Technician for an ICU because I wrote out some of my specific duties/skills for each of the clinical positions I’ve held.

I am not sure but I don’t think it would hurt to email them and ask to make sure? I know some schools like UB and Binghamton only accept courses that go over everything from conception to death. I took Child Development and many of the universities I’m applying to said it won’t count for the Lifespan Development prerequisite requirement since it doesn’t go over the entire lifespan, only childhood. That’s why I had to take Developmental Psychology that went over the entire lifespan at Erie Community College this Summer.

Hi everyone!

I am also applying to the program! Working on my application right now!

Does anyone know whether they still accept essays over 3 pages? Any tips on shortening your essays?

Also, does anyone know if the date we submit our application matters in the application status?

Good luck to everyone!

Hey I just submitted my application today! In the application it said 3 pages and I know some programs are very strict on the length requirements but I would email or call admissions and ask. I had exactly 3 pages so it ended up working out for me but I would go through and rate everything by importance, like what things you think you really need and go down from there. That’s how I shortened my essay for another program I’m applying to!

Thank you for your response!

It is so hard to cut down the pages ?

Do you know if the date of our submission matters in our acceptance?

No I don’t think it matters that much at all. Like they aren’t gonna say “This person applied before this person” and base their admission decision on that. Just as long as everything is in before October 8th, you should be good to go!
