Stony Brook School of Nursing has recently opened the undergraduate application portal for the 2021 school year. I was part of an allnurses thread for their Basic BSN program last year, and the information and support from other applicants was amazing; so I jumped on creating a thread for this cycle as soon as applications became available.
Any questions or even just casual discussion about the program is more than welcome! Can’t wait to talk to all of you. ?

can we submit and our recommenders submit later?
My last recommender just texted me and told me she has a migraine so she “might” not have it in....ugh really???????
I believe you can still submit the letters later and just submit the whole application before, but don't quote me on it, because other schools do that too.

You have 5 days after the deadline to have your letters submitted. So all your LORs should be in by the end of the day on Oct 13th.

I think it’s most ideal to have health-related professionals submit your recommendation letters, BUT not everyone who is applying comes from a medical background (including myself). I work in marketing so all my recommendations letters have to do with that. I didn’t really have a choice.
Regardless, I think it’s most important that you chose people that can speak positively of you personally, professionally, etc.

Yeah I agree, I think it’s best to have letters from those in the medical field, especially those with a nursing background but that’s obviously not possible for everyone so I’m not sure on how SBU will evaluate things.
For me, I had a letter from my Microbiology lab instructor, a professor I had while I was studying abroad in the UK last Spring who I got close to and is a Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health NP, and a Surgical NP I shadowed.
