Hello,
I am 24 yrs old and I am trying to get into a nursing program in the NYC/Long Island area. I live in Long Island and currently attend Suffolk Community College. I have read many of the threads on here regarding Universities such as Stonybrook, Farmingdale, etc..and most of you say they are extremely difficult to get into. This has me very worried, and sometimes I get a bit discouraged. A state school is my only option, as I have previous student debts and cannot afford private school. I try in school but always manage to fall short of an A, most of my grades are B+'s. I got an A in Chem, but only a B+ in AP1. Right now I am taking AP2, Psych, And Comm, and I am going to try hard for an A in all of them. I am wondering if it is still possible for me to get into a nursing program in the SUNY/CUNY schools?

You basically have to go for it and try if you really want it.

Try for Farmingdale. As long as you have A's and B's in ENglish, A&P1&2, and Psychology they should definately consider you. TO get in they look at 50% at your grades and 50% on how well you do on an entrance exam which really aint that hard I took it last week.

Hey Tanu....I have no idea yet. I won't find out until the end of May. I got an 82 on the NLN which I don't think is that good, but I Have a 4.0GOA so we'll see. Good luck oin the 19th
82? i thought i read on ur other post u got 121 or something like that? but anywayz a 4.0 is excellent u shudve tried applying to other places with that gud of a gpa....thanks for the gud luck!!
i agree with the post above....ur gonna have to apply everywhere and give it ur best shot!!....i dont think ur grades are bad at all but there will always be competition so do ur best on the entrance exams and essays and show that ur motivated.....dont get discouraged!:)
My composite score is a 121 but the percentile grade which is the one they look at was an 82...I think Farmingdale only accepts those who make it is the 90th percentile, but we'll see. I also applied to Nassau Community College so hopefully someone will take me!
ohh ok i get it.....gud luck! hope we all get in somewhere!! lol

as long as you don't have F's or a lot of C's on your transcript, you should be ok. If you do well on all of your pre-reqs, that shows some determination. If you really want to get into nursing school, go for it and don't let your grades discourage you. Schools will not only look at your grades, but also your personal statement & references...so if those are superb, you will be considered =)
Don't be discouraged, I was in the same boat as you....and now a year after, i'm a new graduate.

You have pretty good grades unfortunately it has gotten so compettitve to get into to nursing scholl right now. You just have to keep trying eventually you will get in somewhere.
St. Pauls school of NUrsing in QUeens requires minimum only a 2.5 GPA....it is a pricate school and is approzimately 500 a credit but if you have already alot of classes done you might consider that. I heard they might end up moving to LOng Island
