please check out the International forum. Reciprocity only exists for NCLEX not your license. What you have to do is endorse your license if moving from one state to another and because you will be classed as a foreign nurse you will always have to follow requirements for foreign trained nurse. For Illinois you need CES from CGFNS, pass TOEFL unless your schooling was conducted in English and pass NCLEX http://www.idfpr.com/DPR/APPLY/FORMS/CGFNS_02.pdf

good day colleagues.

i have the same case as maiqs. i recently passed the nle for the philippines and was quite unsure of the steps in processing an il license. i went ahead and reviewed some forms available in the website of illinois center for nurses. i even wrote an e-mail to ms. bromberg for clarifications, i got a response from one of her assistants. i will post our correspondence here.

dear ms. bromberg,

good day

i recently passed the nursing licensure exam from the philippines. i have a brother working in champaign as a physical therapist. i logged on to your site http://www.idfpr.com/dpr/who/nurs.asp and read the procedures for foreign nurses. i wish to clarify some information before submitting documents to your council to prevent errors. my questions are:

1. i graduated from a school with an english curriculum, could i take the ielts instead of toefl?

2. can i take the nclex first before ces and toefl/ielts?

3. will i be eligible to take the nclex even if my local license has not yet been issued?

4. can i use the california fingerprint card that i got for free for my application? if not, can i get one for free?

i will be waiting for your response before i proceed with my application.

thank you,

joshua rey molina

after 2 days, i received a response saying:

hi joshua:

i have attached a powerpoint presentation that should be able to answer all of your questions regarding licensure in the state of illinois as an internationally educated nurse. if you have any additional questions after reviewing the material, feel free to contact me via email.

thanks

i am thankful for the quick response however, i don't think the powerpoint presentation addressed my issue. i received slides containing the same information available at http://www.idfpr.com/dpr/apply/forms/cgfns_02.pdf

in a very presentable manner.

does this mean that i can only take toefl for my english qualifying exam even if philippine schools have an english-based curriculum? is it toefl or toefl ibt?

perhaps you can answer my questions silverdragon102, i think that would help me and maiqs.

i asked my brother to contact il center for nursing and ask them verbally.

as for reciprocity, if i got it right, provided that i passed the nclex from a different state and wish to have my license reciprocated in il, all i have to do is complete the requirements for illinois but i won't have to retake the nclex right?

thanks a bunch!

Apologies Josh but have only just seen this. Looking at the power point if CES shows that your course was taken in English with English text books then the language exam may be waivered and also indicates that they will only accept TOEFL

If you take NCLEX and pass and then want to endorse to another state then you just need to meet requirements for foreign trained nurses you do not have to take the exam again

i need your help guys...

i recently applied for licensure in illinois. i went to school yesterday and received certified true copies of the documents they sent for CES (TOR and RLE plus Request for Academic Records) and found out that instead of writing the full Maria plus my second name, the school wrote Ma. (abbreviated form) on my TOR instead. All the other documents have Maria written on it.

so my question is, will cgfns accept that or will it be a cause of problem and delays in the processing of my application? what do i do now? sorry if im being paranoid about this, i just want to be sure

thanks in advance for all your help :)

I'm not sure angel, I just started the processing for IL. My license from PRC isn't out yet. My advice to you is, log in to cgfns.org and click on "Contact Us". Ask your question there. It takes a maximum 4 days for them to respond, sometimes you get an answer the following day. IMO, I would have my school spell out my complete name to avoid inconsistencies.

Removing NCLEX from title as applying for licensure to be a RN of which NCLEX is part of that process. You are not applying for NCLEX

Many write that they want to apply for RN NCLEX or where can they get NCLEX application and that is wrong. What you are applying for is to be a RN in the US of which NCLEX is just part of that process

There actually is no such thing as an application for the NCLEX exam, it just does not exist. You are applying for licensure as an RN to the Board of Nursing of your choosing. There is not even any mention of the NCLEX exam on the application when you complete it.

You must get permission to sit for the exam in the first place, there is no way to apply directly for it. This is the point that we are trying to make and show others that they will not find an application for the NCLEX exam as it does not exist.

Licensure only applications as well as meeting all of the requirements for that particular state are what is needed. You must meet all of the requirements of the state before permission will be given to write the exam, which is the final step in the process. And far from being the only one.
