STCC Nursing Fall 2009

Published

Hello! I just received my acceptance package to STCC for the fall of 2009. I am kinda shocked I actually made it in! Just wanted to see if there were anyone else on this forum who got in. :)

Specializes in OR-ortho, neuro, trauma.
how do they know if you cut/paste and not just type out the same information? i'm confused lol.

i'm trying to develop how i'm going to get organized/study because i haven't ever really had a course that demanded good organization or studying skills (well except for a&p i & ii but that was easy).. but there is a lot of advice on this site so i'm picking up a little bit of everything, and hoping i'll get the hang of it (:

i bought those little post-it flags (the little skinny different colored ones) and i marked all the chapters they are having us read for 1st & 2nd week in each book.. and plan to use one color for each test.. that way when i study i can just look for the colors and pull up information in any of my books because they will all be marked... i dont know if this is going to be necessary come september, we'll see lol... and then i like the idea of having one binder for each test to to keep all my notes together...

the first few weeks she had us write them all out.

great idea with the post-its!!

my instructor said we couldn't cut and paste either. she wanted it to be written in our own words in a way we could remember. like if the med was for blood pressure we had to write "lowers bp by vasodilation versus the more complicated and technical way it is n the book.

Hmm, I guess I sort of lucked out on that end for clinical with being able to still copy/paste. I pretty much always used my own words for what the drug was for, what I copy/pasted was for nursing implications and the template I made for lab diagnostics (changing it a little bit each week to be specific to my patient). I figured I'd probably see an end to copy/pasting at some point.

Do you get to pick your patients or are you assigned to them?

Also.. they haven't mentioned anything about shoes for clinical... do we need all white? Any certain kind?

You're typically assigned patients in your first year. You will most likely be collecting data from charts on your patient the first day, and the second being actual patient care.

As for shoes, they should be all white. No shoes that have no backing like crocs.

What is the term paper about? Do we get to pick our own topic?

In 102, they tell you what has to be included in the paper but you can pick your topic as long as it fits the criteria...and you have to post your topic with your reader and get it approved...In 202 you have to pick from a list of topics. Anyone remember what the topic was, I forgot? I know the STCC APA manual has it in it, one edition has the 102 paper and the other has the 202 paper i just cant remember which is which (4th or 5th edition)

I believe the topic was health promotion using the nursing processes the first semester for us? We were able to choose what we wanted to promote, I went for diet in vegetarian pregnant women (I forgot my offical title lol). For the second semester, we had scenerios in which we had to choose from. In those scenerios the patients were dealing with some disease process in which we had to write about.

ok guys help! I am looking at purchasing books. I see the Fundamentals of nursing 6th edition but the only date I see is 2006. The book list we got says 2008. What am I missing??? I think we did talk about this before but I can't remember what is said. So far Barnes and Noble has the best price for a new one!

As the others had stated, as long as the edition is correct you don't need to worry about the year of publication as it can be wrong on Barnes and Noble's site. For fundamentals of nursing, the sixth edition is the correct one.

Has anyone been involved with the Nursing Club, or know anything about it?

Does anyone know when they send out the parking permits? I emailed them twice, and paid for my classes and still nothing, I'm getting worried!
