STCC Nursing Fall 2009

Published

Hello! I just received my acceptance package to STCC for the fall of 2009. I am kinda shocked I actually made it in! Just wanted to see if there were anyone else on this forum who got in. :)

I never thought to say I'm a nursing student! I'll probably get in lot 3 or 4 then. They didn't seem too far away from lot 2, but maybe I'm misremembering. How often does the shuttle come around? At HCC it was something like every 10-15 minutes starting at 9 a.m. It'll be my first time taking classes at STCC, so everything is new to me. :(

Specializes in OR-ortho, neuro, trauma.

i don't know anything about electronic scan cards....never had them in the past. are they for the parking lots?

Yeah its new. Just for Lot 1 I think.

yep, I did say I was a nursing student to no avail since I am a LOT 4 girl!

There is a traffic advisory on the homepage of STCC. Did anyone else see it? The traffic around there is pretty bad.

What books would you experienced Students think we need right away. I don't have all my books yet. Money has been tight and I am still waiting for financial aid to come through. I am trying not to use charge cards but I may have too. I didn't think financial aid would take this long.

I have the Fundamentals book and study guide, nursing diagnosis and handbook, the dvds, lab kit, docunotes, nutri notes. the stcc handbook. I am thinking I may need the med surg and pharmacology ones soon as well.

PS Has anyone seen the carpool incentive STCC offers? I would totally do that, just don't know how many people would actually be coming from my way. I should call and just see. You get a cash incentive and a primo parking space!!

Since you are waiting on financial aid, were u deferred and did they give you an authorization for X amount of money to be used at the bookstore? You might try talking to financial aid to see if they will authorize you for more to be used at the bookstore. I know you used to be able to back when I first starting going to STCC, but that well over 5 years ago. It doesn't hurt to try.

Yes, I did get it referred and I got the $300 credit for the bookstore and I did use it. For some reason she said she couldn't bump it up for me.

Tomorrow is the day!! Building 2!!!

Yeah! I saw the traffic advisory.. I think I'm going to take a ride up there the way they suggest so I can be prepared for tomorrow, since I don't really know the area very well and only really know one way to get there from my house.

ProudTwinMom, I'm messaging you on facebook! Go look (:

If you paid full price for the docunotes and nutri notes, I would return them for now. You will need the drug guide and tabers pretty early on (not sure if the school is supplying that for you guys with the pda??) It sounds like other than that you have what you will need for the first week. Hope this helps, good luck!

You will need the psych book, since psych related stuff is not in the fundamentals book but can probably wait a week or so without a problem, same as the pharm...we had a big pharmacology section pretty quick into the semester but it wasn't the first day or anything. We didn't use the med-surg book much until nursinjg 202, same as the old maternity book - no maternity lectures until nurs202, no pediatrics until nursing 302 - so the pedi book can most definetly wait as well.

FYI though, all of the books are available behind the counter at the library (including the dvd's) you can't check them out but can easily study there if needed. A couple of the books (older editions) are also upstairs in the library.

Where on blackboard does it show where are lab and clinical times are? I can't find it :(

i don't think it says the clinical times yet, i think she said we were getting that info tomorrow or the next day?

to get the lab schedule, go to course documents, and its the file called "clinical resource center attendance sheets attendance sheets 2009.doc".
