STCC 2011 Hopefuls?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Just wondering if anyone else is trying to get into STCC this fall for Nursing? I'm finishing up prereqs now, and just took the HESI. I scored an 85, but want to take it again to see if I can get my score up even higher. I have a 4.0, so I'm hoping that as long as my midterm grades are A's/B+'s I'll be OK.

Does anyone know what this hybrid course is that we will be taking over the summer?

Hi Everyone,

I just found this today and am SO excited. I haven't had many people to share the agony of waiting with! I have been accepted to the Nursing Class of 2013 at STCC (YAHOO!). I have answers to 2 questions that I have read.

Hand held devices: They give us an Ipod touch loaded with programs to use, OR if you have a smart phone, they will load the programs on that. I have an older cell phone and am considering updating to a smart phone. I'm on Verizon, does anybody have phones you love/hate? I THINK the hybrid class is learning how to use the programs on which ever device you choose.

For parking: The link they gave us doesn't work, but I went to STCC.edu, went to my email and emailed parking from there--that worked.

Hi stcc2013, congrats! I have a blackberry curve and I hate it, its the dumbest fone I've ever had. I'm so going with the ipod touch.

Thanks! I appreciate the Blackberry info. I know Verizon just released their iphone and I am curious about that. I just don't want to carry phone, calculator, ipod...I'd rather have it all in one device. PLUS if we are somewhere w/out wifi (older nursing homes?) we can't get info with just the ipod--SO much to think about.

Does anyone have a rough estimate on the cost of "other related" purchases? I saw the stethoscope post, and know we need all white shoes...books? uniforms? lab coat? medical kit?

Well if u really think about it, ur probably not gonna be allowed to have ur cell phone on u at clinicals anyways, so I wuldnt mind having the ipod touch and then I'm sure they will have the wifi taken care of, since they have been thru this before. N for the cost I have no clue but if u will be getting financial aid u kan get a stethoscope from the bookstore. I'm jus not sure if we have to pay for the other supplies out of pocket.

Hi everyone,

Yes clinical starts first semester, long term care. Which is great for learning. The costs are crazy!! You have to buy the tops and lab coat from the bookstore but the pants are royal blue cherokee worknwear, so as long as the color matches you should be fine. I have the grey's anatomy ones, very comfy as the ones in the bookstore do not come in petite. The books are insane, so yourself a favor and shop around. I spent about $3500 on my books uniforms, shoes, stethoscope etc...I bought mostly new because I prefer new books, but it is very expensive. If I can make a suggestion, there are two "suggested" titles that I think are worth spending the extra $ on and they are Clinical Calculations Made Easy (dimensional analysis) and Fundamental Success. See you on May 19th!

Wow $3500? That doesn't include tuition? Haha I better start working late! :uhoh21:

For parking: The link they gave us doesn't work, but I went to STCC.edu, went to my email and emailed parking from there--that worked.

Really I tried this and it didn't work. What was the email address you used?

Thanks!

On the parking decal, they said not to request any decals until june 1st and for the costs, WHOA I'm scared. Do we have to bring money to the orientation?

It would be great if we could get a book list/ list of required materials so I could start pricing stuff out before we get to the bookstore. I'm guessing we can find a lot of the stuff for cheaper elsewhere. (Or at least i'm hoping!) I'm not afraid of used books haha!

Lol me neither, I want all used books!! They should of told us to bring money, this is wreckless

Haha I don't think I'm going to buy anything at the bookstore right away accept the stuff I know I can't get anywhere else. Like the lab coat, the scrub tops, the nursing kit etc.. Everything else I'm just gonna write down and try to get cheaper somewhere else!
