STCC 2011 Hopefuls?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Just wondering if anyone else is trying to get into STCC this fall for Nursing? I'm finishing up prereqs now, and just took the HESI. I scored an 85, but want to take it again to see if I can get my score up even higher. I have a 4.0, so I'm hoping that as long as my midterm grades are A's/B+'s I'll be OK.

Don't stress, if you are savvy you can find things cheaper. You wont need money at orientation unless you want to order t shirts or a fleece from the seniors. That's how it was last year for us. They will give you a book list it is expensive so prepare yourself. Good thing is you don't need it until september :-)

First off, Congrats to all those who have been accepted!

Quick question. Does anyone know of anyone who hasn't heard anything yet? And what does that mean if your webadvisor hasn't changed, nor have you not received a letter yet?

Thanks "2012ForMe"! Your info and advice are invaluable. GAH! REALLY!?!? $3500.00 of "extras" over and above tuiton and fees--yikes. Is that all for first semester or spread out over the first year?

I don't have a problem with used books, or gently used uniforms for that matter. Do you know any graduating seniors interested in making a few bucks? Sounds like there are a few of us willing to buy. Do you need all of the books for first semester?

As for the parking info--I am currently taking A&P 2 at STCC and have a STCC email address. I went to my STCC email and emailed [email protected] from there. It went through.

how Odd I have an STCC email too and it didn't work! Hmmph :p Well I will try again after June 1st.

It depends, I know there was some talk about changing the curriculum so I hesitate to guide you on the books, but if it is the same as last year then you wont need the maternity until second semester. I also hate the study guides they make you buy. I know for 104 you will need it for assignments but again that's if it doesn't change from when I started in september.

The part that makes it expensive is the extra books, at least for me. Nursing exams are unlike any other exam you will ever take. They are all application and require critical thinking skills. the only way to brush up on critical thinking skills is to do many many NCLEX questions. Some people can get by with out buying extra books but I was not one of those people.

So you feel the study guides are not helpful in comparison to their cost? I get about buying study books for NCLEX questions...are you already preparing for next year? Is it an ongoing process like studying for finals all semester?

Sorry about all the questions--I apprecuite your insight!

R we only allowed to wear all white shoes?

Hey Everyone! I'm also attending STCC for the fall 2011 nursing program! Just wanted to say hi! I also have a couple questions. First, registration started today, but when i look for the nursing 102 and 104, they aren't listed. Are we automatically put into those classes or what? Also, I paid my deposit and have a webadvisor account but how do we set up a stcc email account? Anyone know when and/or what time the nursing 102 and 104 classes are going to be? Thanks!

Hi and welcome! We cannot register for classes until after orientation, so don't worry about that for now. I'm pretty sure you will be mailed an email adress with instructions on how to set it your stcc email up. I'm pretty sure that's how I got mine but it was over a year ago. You might be able to call the help desk and have it set up sooner.

I don't think we will know the final schedule of classes until they put it up in webadvisor. It seems like they are changing some stuff around from previous years.

Thank you Sillypuddy! I appreciate your help! Any suggestions as to what kind of stethoscope I should get if i don't order it from the bookstore? Also, on the checklist it says to send an email requesting a parking permit, but that it wont be granted until payments have been made. If I'm only taking nursing classes, and can't register till the orientation, does that mean I won't be able to receive a parking permit until after the orientation? Also, do you have any suggestions for study guides and/or books that i could order now to give myself a jump start on the material?

I know Afia got a littman classic II se. I was looking at those as well and the reviews are pretty good, and there much cheaper then some of the other highly recommended models. I'm probably going to do more research though before I buy one just to make sure I'm getting the best deal!

Someone else on this board let us know that they aren't accepting requests for permits until after June 1st. So don't worry too much about that now, I bet they will tell us something about it during orientation.

Maybe some of the current students could give us tips on books, I was really just going to wait until after orientation to buy anything, I don't want to spend any money unnecessarily, especially since it sounds like the costs are going to add up quickly!

Good luck! Oh and we started a facebook page as well for our class, if you are on facebook be sure to join us!

Hi Aboydstcc,

Yup, all white shoes that have closed heels and toes. Look for something supportive and comfortable!

Welcome Liptonacl!! Congratulations to you! It's been over 3 years since I have had my STCC email, but I agree that something came in the (snail) mail that told me how to create my email. Not sure if everyone knows, but you can forward incoming mail to another email address that you check more often.

I know clinicals are Mon/Tue from the letter, but does anyone have a clue how many total times we meet a week for 102 and 104?
