STCC anyone?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi, I was just wondering if there were any other students (or alumni or instructors) from Springfield Technical Community College on here.

Kat-- CONGRATS on getting accepted into the nursing program! :yeah: That's so exciting!

I just started attending STCC and am working on all the prereqs to get into the nursing program. I plan on applying in 2010 since I want to be done with almost ALL of the classes to ease the workload once I'm into the nursing program.

I just had a few questions for you!

Do you know how many people applied and how many actually got accepted? Do they only care about your grades in classes or are they looking for people with other experience, like hospital volunteer work or being a CNA first?

What kind of grades do you need to get in? I'm just wondering if I complete all the courses with A's and B's is that going to be enough to get in?!

Thanks in advance. :)

Thank you! I'm really excited for the fall to come!!

They accepted about 109 students and from what I hear about 600 applied.

I'm not sure if they look at all your grades not just the required ones but I would assume that they did.

I didn't have all A's and B's from when I was younger and didn't really want to be in school but they say the more classes you have done (like english, a&p, micro, psych etc) the better!!

Good luck!!!! :D

Have you started the reading yet?

I'll let you know about the scrubs and other stuff.

i bought my books online too! i think i saved alot of money dont you?? i have not started my reading yet....but i will very very soon lol. what about you??? you are going next week for your uniforms? and we need a stethascope and some kind of kit right? i hope its under $500 or else im gunna have to wait a little longer to get it all.

I am new to this site but I just wanted to congratulate all of you who got into STCC Nursing in the fall. I am a 2008 STCC Nursing grad. Good luck to all of you.

I've started a little bit of the reading, and I already have a stethoscope since I've been an EMT and CMA for awhile. Not sure what's in this kit we have to buy but I'm sure that plus scrubs and I need new shoes (don't have all white ones) will be a good few hundred bucks.

Heya,

Suggestion: Get together with a few friends and get Littmann stethoscopes from the internet. Going in with few people cuts down on shipping. I think I went in with like three other folks and we got free shipping..

The Littmann II is a nice one..I think they're like 40 or 50 bucks.. the ones the school sells are junk.

Yeah!! Lots of activity in here! I love it.

Kat~ According to the class description for Micro with Maura. It says Monday is lab and Wed is lecture. Is that right? DId you take micro at night? I have never heard of them doing it that way.

I am officially half way done with A & P II and Psych. I can't wait to be done and have some down time in August before school starts again in Sept.

Do you guys think I should retake the HESI? I got an 80% which is passing, nursing requirements say at least a 77%. I did really well on basic Math, reading, and vocab, all above 90"s. But I did awful in the A & P and bio part. Which I strogly attribute to not haing A & P II done. I took A & P I in 2005 so I am sure that didn't help either. Bio, I haven't taken sinch high school which is over 10 years ago. So I am thinking I should take the HEsi again to be more competitive. I will be done with A & P and micro. I will have time to really study and get the study guides. Do You think it will increase my chances? Or do they really not look at the Hesi except for pass or fail? Please, I need some insight into this.

I was looking at the upcoming fall schedule. Looks like you have class almost every day! I think I am going to have to get back into the CNA to accomodate the schedule.

Yeah I took Micro at night. Even though it says lecture one day and lab the other she does both every night unless something has changed over the summer.

As far as the HESI goes, I got an 86 and was super happy, a lot of people didn't pass. I'd HEARD now who knows how true this is with all the STCC urban legends but supposedly they don't care if you re-take it, like you got the 80 so stick with it. I'd ask a counselor though.

Good luck with the rest of the summer semester!! It's almost over!

Yeah my schedule will be packed, we don't have the exact schedule yet since they have to fit everyone in but I'm hoping to have 1 full day off to work.
