Hi, I was just wondering if there were any other students (or alumni or instructors) from Springfield Technical Community College on here.

Specializes in OR-ortho, neuro, trauma.

thank you! if you can take micro with she is the best micro teacher at stcc!!

Thanks. I will have to remember her name for when I take it in September. How was the class? Is it as hard as it sounds?

I didnt get anything in the mail today. Don't they send out denial letters as well as the acceptance letters? I still have the 1% of hope. I registered for Psych 325 Human growth and development. The teacher is Terry G???

Oh one other question? Hope you don't mind.

So what is the next step for you? Did they tell you what you have to do next? Or you just show up in Sept?

If you take Micro with her it's not too bad. The other teacher packs on a lot of extra work. I have no idea when they send out denial letters, I would have though on the same day.

I took human growth and development. The instructor was another really really great teacher!!! Her classes are laid back but you learn so much, I think she is the head of the dept.

I think we have an orientation....I have no idea, I hope to find out soon!!

Specializes in Psych, substance abuse, MR-DD.

Angela, first of all, take a deep breath:)

If you didn't get in this semester, it's not the end of the world, if means you have a whole year to take those prereqs and get in next year. I would HIGHLY recommend having most, if not all, of them done anyway before starting the nursing program. She's tough for clinical, but an excellent teacher. Don't now about the psych class, but she does have a psych background.

I know, it's probably not what you wanted to hear. But all good things come with time. Let us know how you're doing.

Hi Everyone

Update:

Well I did got my denial letter for this fall. No suprise!!:(

I start A & P II tomorrow and Psych 325 online this week. I am excited!! Looking at what I have left after these summer classes is only 3 more pre reqs. Micro, Eng Comp II and Soc. I will take Micro and one of the others in the fall, if I am brave, I may do all three. Then I will be done and just have my actual nursing classes to do.. I hope I get accepted for Fall 2009. I got an A in my Eng Comp class I finished in May, so my grades are pretty good. I am thinking about taking the HESI over now that I will have had A & P II.

How are you doing kat? any more news from STCC for the fall. You must be so excited to start.

Chaotic~ Thanks I needed to hear that and yes it is Terry Glanville, Her intro was very nice and warm. I think I am going to like her too!

Specializes in FNP/Acute Care.

You will have a great time when you get in. Keep us all posted as time goes on. I just finished and it feels really good.. soon it will for you too!

Congrats on graduating from STCC!!!!!!!! :yeah: I got accepted for the fall. Any words of wisdom to pass on? haha

Much actually.

- Working is possible, though I would recommend against it the senior year unless you are really good at pushing all other things in life aside.. family, fun, sleep, etc. It's certainly doable though. I did it.

- listen to everything said by everyone, everything counts and anything can be on an exam. Nothing kills me more than the student that is constantly asking "is that going to be on the exam?"

- Leave any over sensitive side at the door. There were several that were very sensitive to critique and took things hard from time to time. Everything faculty does and says with you is to make you a better nurse, never forget that. Always be asking yourself "why am I doing this and is it safe and appropriate."

- Push yourself. Once it's over you're on your own in a matter of spreaking. Get in as many challenging things as you can during your rotations.. jump at the opportunity to do anything you are offered.

- Reading the texts helps.. I didn't do a lot of reading the first year, but I did plenty the second year.

- Get one or two really good NCLEX books and browse through them from time to time from the start. I recommend a book for the first year that breaks things down by topic.. it WILL help you on exams.

- Get different perspectives on things. Don't read ONLY the handouts and texts... reference other books.. if there's something you don't get when you're studying, access the internet.. just be sure it's a reputable source.

- Do NOT buy into the rumor mill about anything or anyone. So much gets thrown around about test formats, faculty, material, paper writing.

A few quick facts: the "harder" and "meaner" faculty (or so some say) are the ones you want to pay closest attention to and hopefully get to do clinical with.. they will make you the best you can be! Some resented a lot of extras that were thrown at us, but it will only help you when NCLEX time come.. For example, they do a GREAT job covering drugs, which many other schools fall short on.

- Take time for yourself. Whether it's just going for a walk a few times a week or hitting the gym, make CERTAIN you live some part of your life still. It'll keep your brain balanced and keep you more focused when you DO sit down to study.

- Lastly -- Paper writing! Read the directions and follow them!! They provide very specific instructions for paper writing and if you follow them TO A T you will do well. I was shocked at how many people failed to do this and wrote in thier own format and got terrible grades because of it. I admit, I was guilty of this the first semester.. you learn quick though. :)

Stay positive and you will do great, and again, don't buy into the discouragement or bad attitudes of others.

If you ever have any questions about anything feel free to write.

Thank you soooooooooo much!! That was a lot of great advice and I will listen to it all. I'm sure I'll be messaging you in the near future! :D

Kat~ I am registered for microbiology class come fall. She only has 12 spots left and it's only June. So you weren't kidding when you said she was good. The class is mon and wed from 6 to 9pm. I am going to be a zombie in the fall. I wonder if she really keeps you all the way to 9pm?

Psych is going really well. For the most part it is reading the assiged chapters, taking the quiz, watching clips on a cd and sending her the assessment answers. At the end, we have to write our own obituary, should be interesting and eye opening! Professor Glanville is really nice!!

A&P II is going well. It is just so much information and terms. How are you suppossed to remember it all? My first test is monday. Wish me luck!

Specializes in OR-ortho, neuro, trauma.

For micro she lectures until 7-7:30 and then lets you do your lab and you can go as soon as you're done. I don't think I was ever there till 9. She spilts the class up for lab too, 1/2 have her and the other 1/2 have another woman, I've heard great things about the other woman.

Good luck on your test!! I found A&P2 to be easier the A&P1. I would make flash cards for terms that weren't sticking in my head and that helped alot!! PM me anytime!!!
