STCC anyone?

Hi, I was just wondering if there were any other students (or alumni or instructors) from Springfield Technical Community College on here.

I chose A as well. I can understand where you are coming from on your rationale, I looked at C for an moment as well as an possible answer too. Then thought, since it's an teenager....A would be best due to what we learned about developmental stages. I had thought yes, C might work. But I felt the key word was "develop your teaching plan" or whatever it had said. I'm a little hazy on the correct wording too. But, it does not specify what kind of learning will be developed, it could be anything under the sun. That was just my rationale.

As for approaching the professors about challenging, I think they are pretty set on their answers. Just from what I interpreted during the exam review, it seems that way. If you do approach them, I think you should make sure to seem like you just don't understand their reasoning or why yours doesn't work. I'm sure that is the case anyways or you wouldn't be here asking, but be sure to convey that sentiment of not understanding. Sometimes people may misinterpret what one says or their intentions just from something simple. One of my pet peeves is at the Gynocologist's......when the nurses asks "How many partner's do you have." Well.....one. But if you mean how many I've had in my lifetime, that'd be completely an different answer. Just an example. But, it just goes to show that how the set up of an sentence can be interpreted differently.

I was thinking if I did approach her I would say that I just wanted to explain my rationale so I can see where I went wrong in my line of thinking- which is the truth, not to say it wouldn't be nice if she said "hmm I can see where you are coming from, extra point for all who chose C!" My dream, world sounds like a nice place doesn't it? Anyway thanks for the input, I will certainly be careful like you said in the way I approach the situation if I approach the situation!

a few people had said that their downfall was focusing in on the extra information in the text that was not covered in lecture. for me, i passed and stayed in the 80's. so i'll take it. not thrilled, but i'll just aim to do better on the next one. it's funny actually, i really did not even believe what my grade was. i checked blackboard about 4 times that day to see if maybe my grade changed somehow. but i realized how i can more effectively take tests and study. so hopefully that will help me!

it just seems to me that underlining all of what may be important in the questions, and maybe even labeling the multiple choice with my critical thinking process will be helpful for some questions. that way i have an clear visual of what i have to deal with. as well as be sure to thoroughly go through the exam after i'm done. i usually do go through it again, but just skimming over it to make sure i put the correct answer down and going over questions i'm unsure of. i also noticed that i did worse on specific sections of the test. for example, the termination-orientation question. obviously my attention span has to improve, i'm going to get an huge cup of coffee for specific lectures from now on! but i think i like the smaller groups, it's more conductive to learning. lol.

i agree that i like that they are reinforcing being on time. especially now that lectures start at 10:10am, there shouldn't be so many late people coming in anyways. i can understand being late though. i was late once for our second clinical orientation. things happen, many of us have children as well.

things definitely come up!! i'm sure almost everyone of us will be late at least once over the next 2 years lol.

my comment was geared to the few that seem to always be late and squeezing in right as the door is closing.

i love how active this thread is now!! just wanted to offer myself up. now that clinicals are really getting underway i have quite a few years experience as an emt and cma. i've worked in a number of different places and would love to share some tips/answer questions to anyone!

1 thing i have found very useful....when cleaning a pt that has made a "stinky" (lol,) hum!!!! you can't hum and gag and the pt finds it soothing and you know they are already super embarrased that you have to do this for them. trust me it works!! :-)

Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could tell me what hours you are in school? What does your schedule look like for classes and clinicals? I plan on applying next year and I'm hoping that all of the classes/clinicals are in the morning and hopefully over by 1 or so.

Thanks in advance!

i have clinicals mon and tues till 12, wed off, thurs classes till 1:20 (is that what time it ends?? haha) and friday class till 12:05. everyones schedule varies a little. also there are quite a few days that you end up having to stay later for group meetings, info sessions etc. and that is only the first semester. i believe that as the semesters go the times change for classes and the days are longer for clinical.

good luck in your pursuit!!

As Becky stated, there were a few days that we had to stay later for different things. I don't know whether schedules might change for you next year from what they are now. But for our first month, the schedule was a bit different from what is now. You can expect to go every day if you "end up" with the Wednesday lab for that first month. Most days until 12 or so. But on Thursdays till at least 1:20 for Trends always, there was one day or two that were different (canceled or longer day during orientation week). Also, there might be one or two days during that first week (orientation) that you might not know what time you will be at school at or till. It depends on what group you are in, and when they schedule you for different orientation things like lab and library for trends. So you may expect to run past 1 o'clock on those 2 days. Also clinical orientation later toward the end of the month, there was another late day. Till 2 it was scheduled to end. So at least 3 possible days it could run late other than regular Thursday Trends.

When clinical starts and it gets a little better. Less lecture days (2 per week), more of an regular schedule. Or maybe it just seems that way! But they "say" that you could get either mornings or evenings for clinicals. Later they added an wednesday clinical as long as you didn't have lab. But you might not get this option. They did an random pick of 8 for that. Which is mornings/afternoons, an longer clinical to make up the hours. So wednesday clinical is definately past your 1 or so.

For the rest of this year, it just depends on what we get scheduled with for different workshop activities. We might get any time between around the times of 8 to 2.

Sorry this was an bit long winded. It wasn't an simple answer and I wanted to be through! Good luck on getting accepted! Also, we went to an acceptance orientation around June. They gave us what our scheduled first month would look like and readings we could do for the first two weeks of school.

Thanks so much for the replies! I'm just hopeful that none of the days run past 2:30 since my husband goes to work at 3 and we don't want to have to put our babies in daycare! We can work around it if we need to, I'm just hoping that won't be necessary.

Thanks again for the thorough answers!

Can you believe it....we are more than 1/2 way done with this semester!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!! only 7 weeks left!

I know! Can't wait for the exam next week to be over with though :D

I had simulation this past week and then did a flu clinic on campus so I haven't been to my clinical site in two weeks. Giving injections wasn't as bad as I thought - thank goodness.

The spring schedule seems pretty reasonable which is good - hopefully I get the lab I want, I am not staying up until midnight to sign-up the night before our exam. I wonder if alot of people plan on doing that, what have you heard? I hope your semester is going well and good luck on the exam , people are saying it is going to be tougher than the last one (obviously)! Some are saying that prof are giving clues about the types of questions and material or what ever but I have not been lucky enough to hear any of that. I think everyone will do fine - or at least I hope that they will!

Do you have all of your pre-req's done? The Hesi, med calc, etc. A few people didn't take the med-calc before applying thinking they could take it during the summer or in the program but they will not even look at your application without it.I have 2 kids and the month of Sept was tough - the schedule was all over the place and sometimes you had little notice. Oct was much better though and more predictable. The clinicals are the only thing that you can't plan out for sure. Some people requested a day clinical but got a night and they will not let you switch for the most part. I don't think it came down to anyone saying they would have to drop out because of the night clinical and maybe they would help you out if it came to that, not sure. The night clinicals are Monday 5-9pm and Tuesday 3-8pm and they are at area nursing homes from Agawam, to Holyoke, and Springfield. As others have said the class and lab are during the day and you could easily be out before 3pm its just the clinicals that make it tough the morning clinical starts at 8am on monday and 7am on tuesday - for me the 7am was tough because I live far away from my site and my husband leaves for work at 6, I need to leave at 6 and daycares usually dont open that early - luckily his boss is letting him go in late. Anyway, good luck on your application - make sure you have your pre req's and don't miss the deadline!

it will be nice once this test is over. i'm feeling pretty good about it though. how was simulation? i have it this week....i'm kinda nervous about it for some weird reason. i'm not staying up till midnight to register, i'll hop on early before i leave for 8am lab. i'm much rather be well rested for my test. i've heard a few hints about what would be on the test but not like it was for the first one. i'm just going to concentrate on the notes and those parts in the chapters. good luck everyone!!!
