Anyone else taking statistics this semester? Classes started today and I'm already feeling overwhelmed!

I'm scared about this course. I hear it's really hard. I don't think this semester it will be too hard for me. I just need to study (which i'm getting better at). Do we need a graphing calculator?

Im taking this class in spring 2007 too. Im so nervous because im taking it online. and this will be my first online math course.:uhoh21: I will need alot of help!!

I'm taking statistics online this semester, as well! Our book comes with the My Math Lab software. Is anyone familiar with it?

I am taking a hybrid stats class this quarter and MyMath Lab is also with our book. I haven't used it yet but am planning to start with it tomorrow. Have you used the software at all yet?

I didnt think that stats was bad at all... I had an old professor and I can honestly say he taught me nothing... he was goofy. I basically read the book, learned the formulas and plug them in and solved. It is basically word problems... I took this class as a freshman with a whole bunch of senior. The professor pretty much kicked me and let me skip the final because I wasnt allowing for a greater curve for him to offer to the others... ha. Its not bad try it... and remember READ READ READ.... and do problems over and over...

taking statistics beginning this coming saturday and am a little nervous. i got the book a couple days ago and it might as well be written in japanese. should i be worried about this class if i haven't opened a math book in about 10yrs? i last took college algebra and finite math way back then, math is definitely NOT one of my favorite things. just wanted to see if any other math phobics felt this way and what the outcome was... plus, what type of calculator do i need to show up with on saturday? thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I'm only two weeks into my stats class, but it's not hard! Just know the order of operations: grouping, exponents, multiply & divide, add & subtract.

I have a good base of high school algebra, that's all. I haven't had college algebra in 20 years and my stats teacher said don't bother to retake it for stats. You won't need it.

And we can use ti-83 or ti-89 calculators. But ti-83's are simpler to use so I got one of those. Me like simple! The instructor shows us how to use them as we go.

Your mileage may vary, but if the book is good, you can probably teach yourself.

Go for it! :D

I am taking stats and I'm not sure if it's the teacher or what but I'm confused. I think it's the combination of the teacher and the course. My teacher is new and is a first time teaching with college students. So he's really shy and nervous. And all of his office hours, I always have other classes. It sucks. So i'm completely confused. I can't even do my homework bc i'm so confused. I'm going to him tomorrow after class to get help. I'm sorry but this is crazy. I shouldn't get this frustrated just by doing my homework. Hopefully he will explain it better to me tomorrow. I hope you all understand it better than i do.

What kind of stuff are you working on now?

I'm not sure if you are talking to me but if you are, i'm doing the different types of bar graphs and then the upper class and lower class. Then class boundaries. And frequency, then midpoint. I think i got the one problem right but when i went to do the next problem, I couldn't do it. I dont know what i'm doing wrong.

Does anyone want to start a study group??

I took stats in high school. Lemme tell you....MUCH EASIER! The teacher was also the wrestling coach so we didn't do anything during wrestling season. I'm glad I took it before college
