Nursing Students Western Governors
Published Jun 29, 2012
I'm on track to start WGU's RN to BSN program August 1st. Just waiting to get all my transcripts in and evaluated. Anyone else starting WGU in August?

I am in the WGU nursing program in California. I am over half-way done and I can say its a good program. Luckily I got in the 2-year program before they extended it another 6 months. From what I've heard, they extended it to allow students more time to complete some prereqs during that time. If you guys have any questions, let me know.

Does anyone recommend the WGU program overall?

I definitely recommend the program! I was in the BSN program but switched to the MSN track since I've been enjoying the program so much. I've learned a lot and the tasks are challenging. My mentor is a great advocate and the class mentors have been helpful as well. I enjoy working at my own pace. So far I've had no issues and I'm pleased with the program. I've recommended a few friends as well.
Hope this helps!

I'm curious...what were the interviews like?
The interviews are conducted over the phone or webcam. They ask why you want to be a nurse, why did you chose WGU over a "normal" nursing program, are you going to be able to dedicate enough time to study, are you going to continue schooling past the RN degree, etc.
And yes, I recommend the program.

Yes, WGU is really good. I started October 1, 2011 and now doing my last two courses; Capstone ans Oral. I went from ADN to MSN. I got my BSN when I was done with the BSN courses which was seven at the time. I wish you all the best. It is doable.

Is the BSN degree awarded to you if you finish the ADN/BSN program early, like some here finished it in 2 or 4 months... or do you have to wait till the end of the term?
Do they require RN work experience before applying for the MSN program?
Yes. It is awarded at the end of the Semester.

hi! im near also! from downey/bell gardens area. have you started the WGU program? im currently an LVN and thinking about this school.
I live in West Covina! I spoke to my mentor today and she said to start getting ideas for the Community Health Practicum since we live in California, a regulated state. Have you given any thought to this yet? PM me with your email so we can talk privately. :)

Has anyone experienced problems with the degree being accepted by other colleges for a MSN program? I am interested in the RN to BSN program, and am wondering on average how long it took everyone to complete. I plan on working as a nurse in Michigan, so I am wondering if this program is approved by the board of nursing there...Thanks
