Starting Salary.

Just wondering....have you started out making at least $60,000/year?

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum. So much great information here. I love reading the posts.

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at this point. I graduated with an ADN in May, passed my boards (with 75 questions- woohoo!), and now I'm looking for a job. Most of the RNs that I spoke to during clinicals recommended 1-2 years experience in Med-Surg for new graduates. I can't seem to find hospitals in this area (Cape Cod) that are hiring new grads. It seems to be a catch 22- they're looking for nurses with 1-2 years experience.... It's hard to get experience if you can't get in the door!

Any suggestions as to where I should start out? Also, does anyone have any idea what the starting rate is for new grads in this area (Cape Cod and/or south of Boston)?

Thank you! :nurse:

can anyone tell me the average salary for the rn's in the state of nevada? thanks.

What hospital in NJ are you working for? What hospital did you friends go to? I'm in the north part of NJ and I will be taking my prerequisites starting this fall and then going to nursing school in sept of 2009.

Elefantastic,

Where in NJ are you? I live in NJ and will be going to get my BSN at Drexel and am trying to see what hospitals in the area pay what. I thought you had to go to Philly or NYC to get paid that much. I would prefer to stay in Jersey though if I can.....

Thanks,

Jamie

ah! See, we don't have unions in Texas.

Hi,

Does anyone know about starting salaries and COL in New Hampshire and Florida? Is it hard to find jobs in either place? I'll be graduating next summer and am exploring options.....Thanks!

I'm in south jersey(shore area) and starting sal is 26hr/ 3-12hr shifts for new grads. I've had a harder time then I thought finding work, alot of people I graduated with already have jobs and I had a higher GPA then most, it's a little frustrating and very political I am find out. I may have to drive an hour to find a new grad position in a hospital.

I live in Monroe county MI and the local hospitals are 32-36 an hour base. That is for regular staff for contingent staff it can be 34-40 an hour. I guess it is where the COL is at.

hey rockenmom, where is point loma? and yeah i think i must have been insane to have been pregnant twice while in school. the lucky part was that i had them at the end of the spring semesters (had a baby and a week later i was taking my finals). i do know what you mean about the stress and putting your kids first, my now 16 month old was hospitalized last fall with rsv.... so of course i never left her side, and when the test came up... well... you win some, you loose some.... lets just say i didn't perform at my best.... luckily i did well on all my other exams... i guess also being pregnant made me push myself harder through school... like i had something to prove....and pregnancy was not going to be an excuse. :dncgbby: so why isn't there consistancy in pay across the nation? and why are nurse/patient ratios unbalanced as well.... is there something we can do to unite with the rest of the nation to balance this out??

can anyone tell me the average salary for the rn's in the state of nevada? thanks.

i believe it's anywhere between 60-65 thousand, depending on the city.

if you type in "payscale" "salary" "rn" and the city/state you want on google, you can find it.
