Congratulations Kate! Sounds like 8/8/08 was your lucky day indeed. When I was doing my clinicals, many nurses recommended starting out with 1-2 years experience in med-surg. As a new grad myself, I'm looking for a med-surg position also. I've heard different views, but I think starting out on days is a big plus. You'll probably be working with more experienced nurses than any other shift. My "baby boy" was born at 7:59am on 8/08 (I don't think either one of us could wait 1 more minute until 8am!) He thought it was cool that he turned 21 yesterday (08/08/08). I tried to talk him into having an Summer Olympics theme party but I failed.... Instead he wants a "taco fiesta"....tacos, fajitas, salsa dips, etc...and cold beer! Hopefully the weather cooperates here. Good luck in your new position!

Hello all, I'm new to this forum. So much great information here. I love reading the posts. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at this point. I graduated with an ADN in May, passed my boards (with 75 questions- woohoo!), and now I'm looking for a job. Most of the RNs that I spoke to during clinicals recommended 1-2 years experience in Med-Surg for new graduates. I can't seem to find hospitals in this area (Cape Cod) that are hiring new grads. It seems to be a catch 22- they're looking for nurses with 1-2 years experience.... It's hard to get experience if you can't get in the door! Any suggestions as to where I should start out? Also, does anyone have any idea what the starting rate is for new grads in this area (Cape Cod and/or south of Boston)? Thank you!
