Hello! I have been accepted to the Swedish Institute School of Nursing. I start this Fall, Everyone is scaring and telling me that It will be hard, and that I will have no life. I have spoken to nurses and they have told me that i should have gotten to school for PTA Physical Therapy Assistant because its way easier, Also does anyone know of any ADN TO NP programs in NY? my goal is to become a NP :p Thanks Guys!

Who are those selfish nurses telling you to go do something else when they are nurses, are they smatter than you are?

I also start my ADN this fall, I am nervous because I don't know what to expect and I have a 12y old, a 2y old and my sick father to care for, but I have hope. Good luck to us!!!

i know... they are just telling me thats going to be very hard... :/ im truly scared...

You ought not to be scared. Nobody knows your true potential but you. I am starting my ADN this fall too at one of Chicago's city colleges, and I am looking forward to it. I also have a fulltime job which I must maintain at least for the first year because my bills have to be paid. Do not let anybody scare you. I have a friend in NY who completed her ADN with a family of four; her husband herself a daughter and an autistic son, both children under 10 years old. she actually completed some of her pre-requisites while she was pregnant with her son. You can do it and please tell yourself that. Do not let anyone scare you!! What kind of nurse would tell someone to do physical therapy instead? Go do your thing...yes it may be challenging but we just need to manage our time. All the best!

The path to nursing is hard but don't let that deter you. If it's what you want, then you will learn how to handle the difficulties and learn to balance your life. Yes, it is true that you will have virtually no life while in school. But why go into an "easier" profession if it's not what your heart is into?

I'd rather have the harder path that fulfills me personally, professionally, and spiritually than be in a job I don't love just so I had some free time while I was in school. Don't trade in your long term goals for the short term fun.

Yes, this is not going to be easy but don't psych yourself out before you've even started! Apply yourself and take it one class at a time. Good luck!

I am supposed to start nursing here too and I am scared to death!!!!! So many people say it takes a special person to be a nurse and someone very dedicated, which I believe in. I'm not scared of my classes at all. I am scared that when one of my kids get sicks, I will have nobody to help take care of them.

I'm almost finished with my third semester. It is hard. It is probably the hardest thing I've ever undertaken. Hours of studying in hopes of getting a 76C. That being said, it is absolutely fulfilling and I would do it all over again, given the chance.

I am interesting in applying to the Swedish Institute for the nursing program. How is the program?

hey nursekis are you still attending the swedish institute nursing program. how is it.?

what are the hospitals that they said you guys will be going to on clinicals. will you be able to transfer your credits to other schools, and will you be able to work in other states? please let me know i am considering this program but i dont want to waste my time on money.

Congrats on your choice to attend nursing school!!! Don't be concerned with the fact that nursing school is hard. Its suppose to be challenging. You wouldn't want someone taking care of your family that took the "easy road". After years of thinking it over and wasting time with medical assisting programs and a fulltime lpn program and trying to work fulltime during school.... I have decided to move from PA to continue my education at the Swedish Institute. Right now I am taking classes at a local community college which will cut down on the classes required for the first semester. Some people may say that is a waste of time but their situation is different then mines. I don't have kids but my biggest stress is financial support. I am saving all of the money i received from my refund check so that will help with some of my cost. I have entered a nursing program before and thought i could work fulltime 3rd shift thinking i would have enough down time to study but boy was I WRONG!! All over this website people say the program is NOT ACCREDITED .....You will see this everywhere so here is a different way to look at it. Most hospitals and government agencies hire nurses who graduated from an accredited program. This doesn't mean you can't become a nurse it just means the likely hood of you working for one of the two is slim to none. This DOES NOT mean you CAN'T continue your education. I have researched this loooong and hard and I have planned out the next 5years. I researched WGU which is where I plan to continue my education after Swedish. The reason I typed this loooong reply is to share my story and to let anyone reading this know that you can become a nurse, you should learn your own study skills in the beginning and don't become over anxious, PLAN AHEAD, don't let other's opinions hold you back because no one has the same situation, connect with the people that can help you finish strong (advisors, nurses who love their job, peers that actually show up for class and study sessions), and remember if you use financial aid you only have 6 years for it so if you have used 4yrs wasting time you only have 2 more........sheesh that was alot (hoping to reach someone who was in the same boat as me...spent so much time listening to others and could have been a nurse by now) *Sending lots of love*
