I didn't go to HF but I do want to give a little advice cause sometimes we are all in the dark. If your school is regionally accredited (like community colleges/ state university systems) you have a way better chance to transfer credits. When you attend this high priced, for profit schools, with mostly "trade" type of programs, they are usually nationally accredited (credits transfer based on the school you are going to). YES you will always need a science with labs when you are going beyond LPN, it doesn't matter if it's online. EDUKAN is a group of community colleges with online courses. They are known for $150/credit (in or out of state). They have science courses with labs.

Is this common
My opinion: Don't assume anything. Please don't reference her age when speaking about this to co-workers or her. That statement could come back to bite you when it comes to age discrimination. Inform her that you want to be helpful without stepping on her toes. Here is why I say that. I have been a CNA for many years so this all comes from personal experience. When I was new I experienced the aides that were "I was HERE first", the entitled aides that believed their seniority meant something. Some aides never bothered to ask me why my way works for me, they were just "this is the way WE do it around here" Don't assume she doesn't like you. It could be very possible that she viewed that resident being up as a risk, maybe she almost fell earlier. Maybe the aid is adjusting to a new schedule, lack of sleep, time management skills she is working on, etc. There could be a number of things. As humans we always assume the worst first. I have worked with CNAs that would help me all the time and NEVER document. If you don't document then it didn't happen. So guess what ? I stopped those people from assisting me since I have to remind them to document, and then double check that they did. I have also worked with a veteran when I was well into my career. I was assigned to work with her my last week of orientation and my 1st week on her unit. She appeared upset when I was first introduced to her. She said " I don't have time for this S***!"... I laughed when she walked away and the nurse explained to me how that CNA would rather work alone and not with anyone new. I wasn't going to make my night harder. I walked right up to her and said " Ms.B, I understand you may not like working with new CNAs cause it can be time consuming. We all have our own way of doing things but I'm not here to slow you down. I've worked as a CNA long enough to be able to work anywhere as long as I know where clean supplies are located and where to put the dirty items when I'm done. So give me half of your assignment, I'll take the difficult patients if you want. You check behind me before lunch and at the last break. I won't let you down".......We worked w/o talking very much the entire night but 30 days later I was "Champion of Caring for the month". The director of nursing gave me my award. She also invited other nurses in her office to tell me that Ms.B had nominated me and it was her first time ever nominating anyone in her 40 years there. Call it a break through! All in all STOP assuming any and everything that may contribute to the negative feelings you are feeling. We're taught how to communicate and it is your job not to ignore any situation that has the ability to escalate. It is funny what we choose to assume. You didn't assume that she is homeless, stressed, hungry, disabled, misunderstanding you, been used by co-workers so she would rather do it herself, lowering her risk of falls by doing it in her way, I don't know, ANYTHING that doesn't make it personal for you. Another thing, we can't take things personal as the first option when our patients come before us. After that long drawn out story.... Giving her your support (verbally), asking if you did something wrong or offensive, and shooting her a compliment could change the world or at least your work environment. Good Luck

Let the countdown begin!
Congrats to you both! I'm still enjoying the excitement from making it on the wait list as the 1st alternate. Exactly 1 week after I was called and asked "Are you ready to start in January?" SUPER EXCITED! I actually go to orientation in 8hrs but I can't sleep from excitement. Let's make this next year of hell the best hell we'll go through!!!

York Vo Tech York PA
Did you go to Vo tech? Thanks for the advice but this is what I have learned about HACC. They are a very unorganized community college system. The brick and mortar of all brick and mortar schools. They are way behind in the use of technology and their schedules aren't very flexible. HACC's plan for education is loooong and drawn out. A 1yr program becomes 2 or 3 and a 2yr grogram becomes 6. I completed a good portion of a practical nursing program in NC and unfortunately I was unable to transfer my credits. So here is my new start. I don't have any children, I don't have to work fulltime, and I don't have to take out any loans. The course work is challenging of course. There is a new director there so maybe whatever was wrong before is in the process of change. I'm optimistic.

York Vo Tech York PA
Today I went to York county school of technology to complete the NLN PAX-PN exam. I scored a 132 which was a complete shock! I had my interview with the director immediately after (I was told it was because my scores were "high"). She explained to me that the January class was full but my scores placed me as the first or second alternate. I'm SURE someone will have to drop the class and I'll be right in that spot. I'm so excited. I've spent so much time debating about RN or LPN and pre-reqs and all that mess. I could have been done with this but water under the bridge now. LPN-RN-BSN-MSN HERE I COME!!

You will get ARD. The judge doesn't care if the wife doesn't want you to have it. ARD is based on other criminal history. She has no say so.

Lincoln Technical Institute Phila Review
*Claps* for you dedication in choosing to stick it out. Sounds awful but here is how you can overcome some of that stress. Everything you learn go home and find a youtube video about it (there are tons), make sure you obtain a great study guide for the nclex, and if you decide to join a study group do it with the people in class that stay far away from drama. After it is all said and done continue to go for your RN. You will hear all the noise about your school not being accredited but when you become an lpn you will be able to find an lpn-rn program online. I wish you the best!!!
-
I feel very overwhelmed about my clinicals.
Yes what you are doing in clinicals is unsafe and you CI is unprofessional. Yes you will be able to take the NCLEX when you are done. This nursing program is very new and is probably still working out all the kinks. People throw out that accredited mojo all the time for every single thing. Of course it is important but it doesn't mean you won't become a nurse upon completing the program because that is up to the board of nursing of NY which the Swedish Institute has been approved. Now because it is not accredited by NLNAC or CCNE that means you may not be able to work at MOST hospitals like the VA hospital and MOST schools may not accept you into their RN-BSN program or may require you to repeat courses. Stick in there and be proactive. Go to someone in administration and explain your concerns on safety and professionalism.

Advice needed! Pre-nursing student@ hacc
How are things going at HACC? That is good advice to forget what you have learned so that you can fully retain and understand how everything you will learn relates. Remember to think critically!! Learn your ABC's (Airway, Breathing, and Circulation) I'm sure you will do wonderful! Congrats on your choice to become a nurse!

Starting Nursing School in the fall?
Congrats on your choice to attend nursing school!!! Don't be concerned with the fact that nursing school is hard. Its suppose to be challenging. You wouldn't want someone taking care of your family that took the "easy road". After years of thinking it over and wasting time with medical assisting programs and a fulltime lpn program and trying to work fulltime during school.... I have decided to move from PA to continue my education at the Swedish Institute. Right now I am taking classes at a local community college which will cut down on the classes required for the first semester. Some people may say that is a waste of time but their situation is different then mines. I don't have kids but my biggest stress is financial support. I am saving all of the money i received from my refund check so that will help with some of my cost. I have entered a nursing program before and thought i could work fulltime 3rd shift thinking i would have enough down time to study but boy was I WRONG!! All over this website people say the program is NOT ACCREDITED .....You will see this everywhere so here is a different way to look at it. Most hospitals and government agencies hire nurses who graduated from an accredited program. This doesn't mean you can't become a nurse it just means the likely hood of you working for one of the two is slim to none. This DOES NOT mean you CAN'T continue your education. I have researched this loooong and hard and I have planned out the next 5years. I researched WGU which is where I plan to continue my education after Swedish. The reason I typed this loooong reply is to share my story and to let anyone reading this know that you can become a nurse, you should learn your own study skills in the beginning and don't become over anxious, PLAN AHEAD, don't let other's opinions hold you back because no one has the same situation, connect with the people that can help you finish strong (advisors, nurses who love their job, peers that actually show up for class and study sessions), and remember if you use financial aid you only have 6 years for it so if you have used 4yrs wasting time you only have 2 more........sheesh that was alot (hoping to reach someone who was in the same boat as me...spent so much time listening to others and could have been a nurse by now) *Sending lots of love*

I'm going to NS, why has your attitude changed toward me???
Let Me start off by saying I am sorry that you are in that type of environment. I was in a nursing program before becoming ill. When I was first enrolled I worked at a nursing home and a hospital. I received an abundance of support. I was able to choose my own schedule and the nurses were willing to help me with all my class work on their lunch break, after work, and I could call on them at any time. It was great. I now live in a different state and I work at a nursing home with a young lady who has been accepted into a nursing program. I must admit I HATE WORKING WITH HER!! Before you call me a HATER I need you all to understand why. She is currently a CNA and since being enrolled in the program she creates an environment that is almost unbearable. At times she works out of her current scope of practice which creates an unsafe situation for the coworkers and the residents. When she goes to a nurse to inquire about something she is confused about in school an argument is always the result because she attempts to challenge every answer they give her. She comes off as a know it all instead of attempting to gain knowledge from those that are already nurses. She believes that the nurses can learn more from her because what they(nurses) learned so long ago has changed. Every time We are in a pre-shift meeting we spend 10 minutes listening to her attempting to reassign task delegated by the nurses. When we are on the unit together and the nurse gives us a list on U/A specimens she wants to go through the list and demands a reason for each specimen, "How long has the resident been confused? Who ordered the lab? Why didn't the previous shift obtain the specimen?" .... I could go on and on about all of the things she does....I just needed to give you all a different perspective. Not all people are haters. Sometimes it's just hard to deal with a person that acts as if they need no support at all. It may not be you..... It may just be from a bad previous experience they have had.

Advice regarding inteview with Presbyterian?!
I've been hearing the job market in charlotte is so bad but from looking at the amount of people presbyterian has brought in this year alone I would have to disagree... Presbyterian has a school of nursing which would cause one to think that the hiring process for others who didn't attend that school would be slow or not at all sooooooo Let's just say if you received the call the position is yours!!!! Take it n run with it!!! I've been there since May of this year, I'm a nursing student and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! They are so flexible, my benefits are great , and oppurtunities are excellent. You should check into the awards for this past year! We are REMARKABLE!!!!!

First cna interview at hospital as ed tech. Help!!
I'm so happy for you. I was in your position just 5 months ago and I absolutely love working at the hospital!!! So aside from what u should wear... Make sure you ask questions. Ask about how you can be successful in your position... How long is the orientation process? What would be my primary challenges if I were selected for this position? how scheduling is done. .. etc. GOOD LUCK I am sure you will do fine!!!
