Hey everyone. I'm considering starting the LVN program at PMCI in Westlake Village this coming January. I have until December 16th to decide.
By chance, is there anyone else starting there at the same time?
I've taken all my prereqs for the RN program but after speaking with a councilor am concerned that my less than A average will hurt me. This way I was told I will complete the LVN program in June 2013 and upon passing the NCLEX I can apply for the RN program, bypass the wait list and enter as advanced placement.
Has anyone done this strategy or considered it?

Which counsellor did you talk to. The one at the LVN school or the one at the RN school. I don't think having less than an A will hurt you to much. Not to the point where you going to LVN school is the only option.
It's hard for me to give you advice not knowing what your background is. I personally went into LVN school because I didn't know if I wanted to be a nurse or not and I hadn't done any specific prereqs. So for me the process for me was decide to be a nursing enroll in LVN school.
If your already there with the prereqs I would think you'd be best going straight to RN because with the money you'll pay for LVN school you could put towards your RN education at perhaps a more expensive but less picky RN school.
What's your gut feeling about all this?
I spoke with the nursing councilor at my community college. There are more issues with my transcripts too. I have a withdraw in Micro from way back and she said that will negatively effect me with their point system. Each school that Ive looked at has some sort of point system and although I've done the classes I needed to do I don't add up to enough points to stand out in a selection process. She basically said it didn't look good for me and that out of 200 applicants I likely wouldn't be one of the 30 selected and that I would fall in the pile of random selection applicants.
She talked about the advanced placement as an LVN. It appeared my chances would be better that way. I also liked to idea of getting my LVN and working for awhile before applying for RN school.

Ok thats the information I really needed to know. I've never heard of PMCI before. Some of the lesser known trade schools have a hard time getting good clinical so I would recommend going to a trade school that has been around for a while like Casa Loma or ACC or Kaplan. None of them are perfect and they will charge a lot but if thats the direction you want to take then it's not the worst thing in the world.

hello
i was originally planning on starting pmci in January of 2012 as well but I decided I would go for the next session and get a job as a cna now since I just received my certification. but my question is what is the Monday - Friday schedule at pmci cause I know cci is Monday Tuesday 630am-2 or 2-10 theort and Wednesday-Thursday 6-11 for clinical . these two schools are my options since they are the closest to me i just need to know which will do better with my schedule.
thanks !

I am taking the HHA class at PMCI right now and although they have a very nice school I couldnt see spending almost $30k just to get my LVN license, especially considering most hospitals these days are barely taking RNs. If you can afford the school I guess go for it, but IMO there are other LVN schools that wont leave you in such debt at the end of the day. What CC did you take your micro with the W at? Have you considered petitioning to get it removed? I don't have an A average and I just got into Valley college's program.

Hey Cax,
I went through their LVN program because i heard all the rumours about the 3 year wait list that the community collages have. I got my license and did my prereques. Made an appointment to see a councillor and he said literally, great you start in 3 months. no wait list, no drama. All the collages are going to the point system and the easiest way to get past all that drama is the LVN. Were you looking at Moorpark or Ventura? Can i suggest Santa Barbra? Moorpark and Ventura start you in 2nd semester while Santa Barbra starts you in third, so 6 months faster. i am not saying anything and about Ventura (where i went) or Moorpark (where a lot of my friends went). Both are awesome. But Santa Barbra city collage is faster.
Good luck! let me know what you decide!
