Starting GCU RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hello everyone,

i'm scheduled to start gcu rn-BSN on April 28th and I would like any info about your overall experience and also want to know if there are any study buddies that I can connect with that will be starting then or soon. Thank you for your imput.

Murse,

This first week was easy and only about getting to know one another and the CLC agreement. My 2 co workers one who just finished and one who is in their last class both said that CLC was hard at first because no one wants to take leadership and bossy, yada yada yada they got over that and decided from the second class on, they would be the proofreader/editors (like TOKMOM) and that way you dont have to rely on someone else doing it and turning it in. I should of done that. I was the communicator trying to get things going but one person just aint cutting it and guess what? SHe is the slacker! If I would of just took charge, It would be a peice of cake the first week. I will let you know week three when the REAL paper is due..

Jj,

Thanks for the heads up and I see what you mean, one day down. I must admit feeling a bit out of my league, everyone who has introduced themselves have either been nurses for a great deal of time or involved in the medical field. Heck I'm still sporting my "New Nurse tag and smell", oh well someone has to I suppose. Either way I'm excited that things are underway and that I have a few folks who are just starting out on this journey as well.

Hi Murse,

New nurses have much insight to give that some of us crusty old bats have since forgotten. Don't let it make you uncomfortable, after all, you are all students, right? :) Congrats no officially starting!!!

Mom2Sam,

I'm well, I'm sure our paths will cross soon enough in class and good luck to you as well.

Agreed, after reading everyones bio, I was glad I left off my extensive depth of experience as a nurse in my bio. Wouldnt want to intimidate anyone. Haha. Its nice to start and although I questioned whether I took enough te off, I know that jumping right back in to school is the right move for me. Tokmom, good luck with your final class, I see you have been churning out assignments. I'm sure being at the end is a great motivator as well and I can't wait until I'm in your shoes.

Tokmom, you are funny you crusty ol student.. I want to be where you are right now.... I don't care if it is writing tons of work and just one more DQ because I would be singing that happy song that last 5 weeks of school knowing the end is near It is amazing how many different instructors they have at GCU. I was asking one of the other nurses here if she had any of the instructors I have been assigned to and she had not heard of any of them! The one I have for this first class doesn't engage very much except to answer student questions in that specific forum but she did give me full points for week one so I am not complaining!

Well, I am crusty and I'm ok with that, lol.

Some instructors will be distant and very sloooow graders. You wonder if they are alive, only showing up for the allotted q 24 hours. Others are there every day and are excellent. I had one call me during the day after she read a question I posted. She said it was easier to explain it over the phone than on the forum. I have had some really insightful instructors and some Ok ones.

You guys will. It goes quickly..well sorta, lol. Those days you hit a wall and you think you can't write another paper, just take a deep breath and do it!!

jjPeds and Mom2Sam,

How are you two doing? I haven't been on AN lately and I've currently been awake with one of my kiddos since 3am, so decided why not jump on AN. The last five weeks have gone by fast and I'm looking forward to jumping into my next class, so much so that I decided not to take a break in between classes. Hope all is going well for the both of you as well and I guess I will see you around "campus" so to speak.

Murse, good to hear from you! That first class I took, was pretty good, only complaint was the CLC and one non compliant student that I guess dropped. I am just one week ahead of you with my first week of family centered care. I am afraid if I take a break, I will fall out of my groove but then I think, Its too early to have a groove yet... lol I will take a break just before my statistics class I hope. How is your kiddo? Hopefully not sick or anything like that.

My first class at GCU has ended and my second has begun. :nailbiting: Good to hear from you also, kiddo was fine every now and then his sleep cycle is thrown off, but thanks for asking. My CLC group had a member drop also, but overall not a bad experience. I was considering break after stats, but I like your plan of taking one prior to, think will follow suit.
