Starting clinicals in ADN program?

Published

I'm curious as to when the average ADN program starts their clinicals. A few weeks in? No syllabus yet, and I can't recall them telling us at the orientation. My program starts after MLK day. I'm just wondering what everyone else did.

Specializes in Hospice.

A couple of weeks in. We had a big all day lab first to learn some safety and infection control before we could start clinicals.

we have clinical orientation on the 3rd week....actual clinicals start the next week i believe

We started clinical immediately in our ADN program! I had clinical on my very first day of nursing school and a Pharmacology lecture the following day. The first day was just orientation to our clinical site at the hospital and the following two weeks we focused on taking vitals and practicing our head-to-toe physical assessments.

And it will be the same for me this semester. Class starts back up on Jan. 19th and I will have clinical that afternoon and then my lecture classes will be the next day.

Ours starts the 3rd week in. We have 2 weeks of meeting during that time on campus, where they will go over what we will be doing in clinicals, what we need to have with us, etc and teaching us some of the basic skills that we'll be using. The third week, we actually go to the clinical location.

In my program we start our 5th week. We have to get checked off for skills like VS, linen changes, bed baths, etc before we go to clinical.

Our first semester is broken down into 2 classes. We don't start clinicals until the 2nd class starts which is 4 weeks in.

I'm in an ADN program (last semester now :)) and my 1st semester we started 4 weeks in. We had to do clinical orientation at the facilities as well as major labs for students who have zero experience learn basic nursing care like patient care, vitals, etc.

Specializes in public health, women's health, reproductive health.

In our first semester, We had lab for a few weeks (maybe 3 or 4) then started in the hospital.
