Becoming? Hahaha good one. I've always been anal and the older I get the moreso I become. But hey, it makes for an easier path through nursing school, lol.

Not really anal, just less tolerant of a few of my classmates. We have a few (an a recent women's health debate) who can not express their opinion without yeling "you all are wrong", namecalling, put downs, etc. And i've gotten to the point of having to step outside for 5 mins. to avoid even thinking of expressing my opinion in such a manner.

Started? Oh no, honey: more like "always been" for me!

For example, I get goosebumps when someone says they're going to get an "expresso" instead of an "espresso". The larynx/larnyx one drives me crazy, too, especially since I'm a trained singer. I get irritated when people go to switch lanes and turn on their blinker after they've started to move over. Also, I get irritated when people drastically slow down prior to getting into an unoccupied turn lane. Waiting in lines makes me jittery and impatient. I cannot stand "that's not my job" people. I am a grammar/spelling nut - bad use of commas gets me unnerved. Same with the typical its/it's, their/they're, to/too, lose/loose spelling problems.

Having said all that, I'm actually pretty fun and laid-back, I promise!

Those irritations I mentioned seem to be even more intense when I'm stressed... and who isn't stressed in nursing school? :coollook:

Oh my God! You're grammar pets sounds like a lot like mine! I have to keep myself from correcting others. I mean yes, I do make typos now and again, but I try to read my my posts/papers before sending it off. Some other pets are: tapping feet, strangers getting in my "personal space" when I'm in a long line at the store, people that don't go at least the speed limit when there is nothing wrong with the weather/no one in front of them:uhoh3: . I live in the country and all our roads are 55 mph and I hate when people don't go at least 55.

Im a member of another message board (not nursing related) and right now they are having the abortion debate (which I think is a ridiculous topic to argue because no one is going to change their views and everyone just gets upset because they arent changing peoples minds...inevitably, though, this topic comes up every few months by new members.)
At any rate, I have been following peoples comments/arguments and some of the things that they say drive me crazy!! ("30% of people who have abortions die from complications", "many women carry ectopic pregnancies to full term with no ill effects", etc.) I seriously think they just make things up that support their argument and call it common medical knowledge. I was thinking about it today and I realized how much more anal Ive become since I have been a nursing student. Even the little things drive me crazy and I fight the urge to correct people because I dont want to be rude. ("lar-nyx" instead of "larynx" is one that I hear all the time at work and I cant STAND IT!!) :chuckle

Drives me crazy when people say "prostrate" (prostate) and "super pubic".

It's supra, dang it!

I think the one that get's me the worst is when people write HIPPA. For the last time, it's HIPAA!

Even official memos and hand-outs at work say "HIPPA".

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that other people are bugged by mispronunciations too, I thought I was just getting too stuffy in my old age! Prostrate is a biggy with me, drives me nuts! Also my current instructor incredibly mispronounces MANY words, which really surprises me. She too is guilty of lar-nyx, pronounces fremitus as frementus, stessoscope for stethoscope, and she slaughters the names of generic drugs. But I bite my tongue and don't dare to challenge her. Oh, it's been a long semester .... :chuckle

Oh man, I'm a lot like another poster here. Grammar mistakes - like heighth! There is no such word as "heighth!" It's "height!" That drives me crazy. Or my favorite: "Where you at??" AHHHH!!! Never end a sentence/question with "at!!"

Another one that really gets me is that most people don't know the difference between "few" and "less." I positively cringe when I hear "there are less cars on the road today, looks like there will be fewer traffic". I have to correct someone when I hear that because they got it backwards. It's too much. Fewer = refers to numbers, Less = to a smaller degree...Grrrrrrrrr....my beloved hubby does this all the time but he's gotten better :)

One more that gets me is anyone who uses double negatives. Pet peeve extreme...

I've always been somewhat anal, but I think I am getting worse as I get older.

In line with some of the ones already mentioned: errors with contractions and poor spelling irritate me. I especially hate to see anything that is supposed to be professional with spelling errors. The sad thing is that I've never been that great with commas myself. :imbar

My medical term pet peeve is "disorientated" instead of disoriented and possibly O2 STAT.

My latest nursing pet peeves have been nurses wanting to irrigate a F/C constantly and also nurses obtaining urine specimens directly from the catheter bag.

General irritations for me: people who say "You're not going to say hello?" and the use of the word "kid" in reference to a child.

I know. :imbar This is anal. :)

Now I'm going to be paranoid about what I've typed that isn't correct. :rotfl:
