I work as a research nurse. It's still not bedside nursing but it is a 9-5 job and it is stable. I don't have to worry about my patients going into the hospital or going on vacation and not having work. I had no luck finding a job in a hospital so research is where I ended up.

What exactly is a research nurse?

I agree with NurseJenny but it does get your foot in the door. Just be prepared to work independently. And just know that you can call 911! don't be afraid and for the most part the families are very helpful. And they always have openings but remember that if your patient ends up in the hospital or on vacation you don't have work and you don't get paid. That was one reason I left homecare.

Uggh this is the exact reason I really want to get out of homecare. As flexible as the hrs are, it can be just as unstable. Vacations, hospital stays, insurance denying nursing hrs, the nurse/family/patient "fit", etc... I love my patients to death but its hard to live comfortably sometimes when u don't know if it will last.

Preferred HomeCare is really disorganized. I'm with Bayada too. Bayada has there stuff together. Yet still, I can't wait to get out of homecare.

Bayada does not hire new grads though that was why I never worked for them. I hear they are a great company though. I may do some per diem work in home care just because I really did love my patients and working in research I don't get that type of relationship. I absolutely love my patients but once the trial is over my patient is normally gone. Some do come back and visit but not many!

Does preffered home care pay for on the job training as a new LPN grads?

I'm actually interested in research nursing. Can you please share how did you find your job? Was it difficult to get in? Do you need years of experience? Thanks in advance for your help :)

thank you.

I have an appointment at starlight to take the test and am not sure what to study. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what to concentrate on. I was told its 50 questions in an hr. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Do they test clinical skills too?

Thanks in advance!
