Stanford Nurse Residency August 2023 Cohort 39

Published

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to submit this here to start a place where all of us who have applied to Stanford's nurse residency program can communicate. This is for cohort 39, which has a start date of August 21, 2023. I hope we all get in!

By any chance, did they tell you if they were still calling people? ? At this point I've lost hope and just need closure LOL

Oh! Also, what time did they call you? ? Sorry for so many questions. I just wish I stood out to them??

No worries! I get it. The anxiety gets to all of us!! It was around 8pm EST

They didn't say! In the interview, they just said the earliest they'd call is Thurs evening but not when everyone should hear by ?

Thanks beans. Cat and I just wanna know already LOL. The anticipation is crazy RN

I had my second round interview yesterday for oncology. There were four managers/nurses from the unit on the call with me. They asked more behavioral questions (in the same round robin style as the first round, each person asking one to me), general get-to-know-you questions, a clinical scenario, and then any additional questions they had. It was a bit daunting with a four people on the call but they were all kind.

I recommend preparing new behavioral stories for every question you already got asked in the first round so you don't repeat any. In regards to the clinical scenario I got lucky and it was one that I knew specifically, but they said before asking the question that they are aware that I'm a new grad nurse and have limited experience. Other than that all you can do is just be yourself and be as friendly and approachable to the managers/nurses as you can!

Once the interview portion concluded, they said that the interviews are still going into next week and they will only make a final decision next Friday, 6/30. Some floors probably can make decisions quickly while others will take until the last day so if you don't immediately receive a phone call don't lose hope. Good luck everyone!

That was the toughest interview. I really prepared for it but my anxiety took over big time. Other candidates may have had a different (positive) experience (and kudos to you) but I want to be REAL here for a second. All 4 of my candidates and I were BEYOND nervous. We were shaky in our voices the entire time but we remained professional. One candidate left the interview mid-way because they couldn't find an answer to the question. I felt SO SAD for that candidate.... AND it almost happened to me!! I couldn't answer one of the questions because I did not have experience related to it so I had to share another similar experience to the best of my knowledge while remaining under 2 mins. I don't know guys.. it was a horrible, neutral experience for me and probably for the candidates that I was with as well.

I am still waiting to hear back at this moment in time. I am still recovering from it and taking it as a positive experience for future interviews. But, if I do not get a second interview, I am not going to be upset... I should never have to feel that much anxiety and tension in an interview ever. So words of advice.. do the best you can, show your personality, and take it as a learning experience. Don't ever get yourself down if you feel like you weren't good enough. YOU are enough and be kind to yourself during this job hiring process for any hospital. You will soon find your place in life.

Hopefully, my vulnerability will make others feel less alone. I wish everyone the best and send all my support. xx

Thank you for being so open and honest! This was the most nerve wracking and horrible panel interview I've ever been apart of. I feel like the questions were horrible and the format is impersonal. Since we all were asked the same questions I had to change a couple of mine for fear of seeming like I copied the stories told by the other candidates, leading me to feel like I scored worse than I would have otherwise.
Hope everyone doesn't beat themselves up over this interview. You are so qualified and will all be amazing nurses!  I felt like I bombed this interview but then the next day I interview at a different hospital in person for an ED position and they were so much more supportive and encouraging. So just remember if you don't get picked there's other options out there and we'll all end up where we're supposed to! Good luck to everyone ❤️

Thank you for sharing! I also had a very similar experience ? was yours for oncology division 1 or 2?

My division said they were interviewing 4 and only taking 2 so just wondering if you and I were 2 of the 4!

I actually am not sure which division ? and they didn't tell me how many they were taking at all. I did panel for oncology/hematology (is that division one?) But this second round was for bone marrow transplant/cell therapy floor. I know there are several oncology units with different hiring needs so not sure!

To those who have not been invited to a 2nd interview yet, has your application status changed to something that would make you think you're no longer in consideration or does it still say, "In process, in review?"

I checked and mine still says "in process, in review"

I did not get a phone call yesterday for a second interview. So, I believe I did not make it.

I am planning on applying for the next cohort. Anyone here that applied for the second time and got in? If so, did you use the same application that got you selected for an interview for the first time or you made some changes? Also, how did you improve your interview skills overall?

Thank you and congratulations to the ones who got a second interview and job offers and shared your experience with us. You are all much appreciated!

Hi, I didn't get a call yesterday either. It really hits hard ? It would have been nice considering my significant other just got accepted to Cal Fire near the area. We would have moved together? Im still trying to hold on to some hope that they'll give offers next week but the chances are pretty slim. I wish you the best of luck for your re application for the Winter cohort! You got this!

If anyone would like to have extra support systems.. and gain a friend, please reach out to me direct message. I would love to make more friends during this new journey out in the real world of nursing. I used to be a nursing school peer mentor and made sure to support new students by making them feel welcomed and provided a safe place to vent. I would like to do the same for any new grad nurses struggling. ❤️

Good luck to everyone on their 2nd interview this week! Honestly I'm a little nervous, I felt like with the first panel interview, it was comforting to have solidarity with other candidates! :')
