Stanford New Grad 2011 Residency

Published

I graduated with a BSN in April 2010, got my RN in June, and am still patiently job-hunting (no interviews yet.) I got an email from my nursing school last week that said "Attention 2009 and 2010 grads! Stanford will start accepting applications for their March 2011 New Grad Residency soon."

I went to the Stanford residency application web page, and saw this as the first qualification:

"Must be a graduate from a BSN or master's level entry into practice program, accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), within 9 months prior to the Program's start date."

Maybe this is a really silly question, so I want to ask it here before I ask it of Stanford. If the program starts in March, then I didn't graduate within 9 months prior to the program start date. Are they really excluding all Spring 2010 grads or am I reading this wrong?

Thanks for any suggestions/clarification!

yay! me too... good luck everyone =)

It will be a simultaneous (we'll be in the room with 3 other candidates) 4-person panel interview. They will be asking different questions of each candidate, and we will be able to hear each other's answers (behavioral questions). I think I'm more nervous about this one than previous interviews, lol. Good luck to everyone =) :heartbeat

Good luck to you all! I know it's really tough out there! I had panel interview with Stanford last Spring. It was the hardest interview I have been in because you are with 3 other potential candidates. You will get four questions each, all behavioral. Just relax, smile, and answer each question with enough detail, yet concise in response.

HI everyone! I got my invitation for the panel interview scheduled for Tuesday. Does anyone have it on Monday? If so, please let us know how it goes! I'm trying to come up with some questions for them. I'm nervous but excited at the same time!

Was having 3 other applicants in the room nerve-wrecking for you? I would imagine having competition present could throw you off. But then again, it may give one more confidence. I am kind of surprised that its almost like a group interview!

@ bellissima: Thank you for the advice =). Wow, so it's only 4 questions per person? Also, how were the managers/interviewers -- were they intimidating, friendly, etc. Thanks =)

Hi everyone, I was wondering, of the people who got an interview, what 2 departments did you choose?

med/surg, critical care, out pt infusion center?

And does anyone know why we had to pick our 2 top choices?

:nurse:

I chose Critical Care as my first choice and Med/Surg second. I'm assuming that they'll look at our preferences if we move past the panel to the one-on-one interviews?

For those of you that have had the panel, what did you think of it? Also, has anyone know how many positions they have available - I've heard answers ranging from 6-10!

They told me 7 on the phone interview, and haven't heard since if it has changed.

i ranked medical-surgical first, then outpatient infusion, and lastly critical care... i figured there will be more competition in critical care... but really doesn't matter because there are a lot of good candidates too... yesterday during my interview, my fellow applicants were so great in answering the questions, so i'm thinking... oh boy, that's it, 6 positions? No chance for me with that... lol... but anyways it was a good experience, and i thought the interviewers were nice and polite... it was just mind boggling and nerve wrecking to think of the answers for the questions on the spot... =)

Wow what an awesome experience. I guess when they narrow it down to 70 from 1,000, everyone interviewed is going to be good, and they were. I had a great group today!

They told us today there are 9 positions now.

Good luck everyone! Can't wait for the 1st!

got my rejection letter today... i'm not surprised because there are a lot of great applicants for the program... it's ok... i got offered a job at cedars =) good luck everyone...
