I graduated with a BSN in April 2010, got my RN in June, and am still patiently job-hunting (no interviews yet.) I got an email from my nursing school last week that said "Attention 2009 and 2010 grads! Stanford will start accepting applications for their March 2011 New Grad Residency soon."
I went to the Stanford residency application web page, and saw this as the first qualification:
"Must be a graduate from a BSN or master's level entry into practice program, accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), within 9 months prior to the Program's start date."
Maybe this is a really silly question, so I want to ask it here before I ask it of Stanford. If the program starts in March, then I didn't graduate within 9 months prior to the program start date. Are they really excluding all Spring 2010 grads or am I reading this wrong?
Thanks for any suggestions/clarification!
Hi Basid786,Though what I do have is very strong letters of recommendation and unique volunteering experiences. I also used my resume to display my evidence-based research. I prepared for days for each interview, including the phone interview. I did extensive research on Stanford and demonstrated my desire to be a part of their team and continue learning lifelong. With my extensive interview preparation I was able to walk into the interview composed relaxed, well as relaxed as one possibly could be walking into your dream job interview haha. I was myself and let my personality show and I am blessed that they chose me.
Good luck and best wishes in your future job search! :redbeathe
What kind of volunteer experiences did you have? I feel like I have been lacking in my volunteer arena lately and I need to step it up! I graduate in a year and a half and want to start preparing. Also, did you help your teachers write your letters? I recently had a teacher write me a letter and during my rotation she told me all these great things like I was the best nursing student she has had and that the nurses on the floor were impressed, but she made me sound so ordinary in my recommendation. I need to figure out how to gain better letters and more volunteering!! Oh and I want to start getting involved in research projects. They are difficult to find though in the bay area I feel like. lol

Hi everyone.
I have a panel interview next week for the Nurse Residency Program that is starting in September. I have read through the forum and want to thank you all for sharing your experiences. I was curious if there is anything I should know or do before my interview next week? I am very worried and want to nail the interview!
Thanks and congrats to those of you who now officially work there!
